This week, during a congressional debate over the proposed censure of Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) for having texted with Jeffrey Epstein during a congressional hearing, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) called out numerous Republicans for taking donations from Jeffrey Epstein.
The problem, however, was that her staff did not vet the information properly, as it was not the controversial pedophile who had donated the funds in question. The Jeffrey Epstein Crockett cited was actually at least two other individuals who just happened to share the same name as the disgraced billionaire.
Crockett's subsequent excuse for the error was so lame, even the ladies on The View did not accept it.
During her floor speech on the subject of campaign funds received, Crockett stated, “Folks show also took from somebody named Jeffrey Epstein, as I had my team dig into very quickly, Mitt Romney, the NRCC, Lee Zeldin, George Bush, WinRed McCain-Palin, and Rick Lazio.”
This was not the same Jeffrey Epstein, though, as we noted above.
Crockett continued on, telling the Republicans that all the relevant information was in FEC records for everyone to see. And that if they kept up their attacks on Plaskett, she was going to expose it all.
To me, this came off as a blatant headline grab on the part of Crockett. She was eventually called out by some of the Republicans she named, then she tried to justify her remarks in the media.
After Zeldin himself and the late Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) daughter, Meghan McCain, pointed out her mistake, Crockett did the rounds with mainstream outlets in an attempt to justify her comments, spewing more lies all the while.
She told Kaitlin Collins of CNN, “Listen, I never said that it was that Jeffrey Epstein. Just so that people understand, when you make a donation, your picture is not there. And because they decided to spring this on us, in real time, I wanted the Republicans to think about what could potentially happen, because I knew that they didn’t even try to go through the [Federal Election Commission].”
Crockett continued, “So my team, what they did is they Googled, and that is specifically why I said a Jeffrey Epstein. Unlike Republicans, I at least don’t go out and just tell lies. Because it was not the same one? That’s fine. But when Lee Zeldin had something to say, all he had to say was, it was a different Jeffrey Epstein. He admitted that he did receive donations from a Jeffrey Epstein. So, at least I wasn’t trying to mislead people … I literally had maybe 20 minutes before I had to do that debate.”
Let’s be serious here… Crockett knew what she was doing, and she got caught. The stand-up thing to do would be to own it and move on, allowing the topic to move itself out of the news cycle, but she clearly did not want to go that route.
Crockett was on The View a few weeks ago, and the ladies were gushing all over her, suggesting she run for a higher office and declaring that she is the future of the Democrat Party. So, the fact that they called her out over the Epstein donation gambit says volumes about how ridiculous Crockett's conduct truly is.
After co-host Joy Behar almost bit on Crockett’s line of nonsense, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin interjected, “But Joy, this is why people get so frustrated with politicians. Something horrible was done. We all agree on that. Epstein engaged in horrific crimes, but people care more about, well, my team didn’t do it, your team did.”
Co-host Sara Haines then added, “When she said, my team looked into this quickly, when you’re going to throw out an accusation that big, which we all know this case is that big, just own it, say it was a mistake, and move on. Because to then try to say, well, they lie and we don’t lie, again, it’s the distrust in Congress and our politicians.”
What bothers me the most is that Crockett likely thought she could pull this off in the media and be supported because of how liberal journalists have acted in the past. Honestly, I could not believe CNN's Collins allowed her to go unchallenged on this because she usually pushes back when a politician is clearly going off the rails. I can’t believe I am saying this, but props to the ladies on The View for finally giving the American people some truth. If only they would do that all the time instead of routinely making excuses for Democrats.
