This week, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) gave a passionate speech on the House floor about supposed ties between the GOP and Jeffrey Epstein.
She linked various Republicans to Epstein campaign donations, but she forgot to vet her information.
One of her accusations centered on a contribution that did not come from “the” Jeffrey Epstein, but from another man who happened to share the dead pedophile's name.
During her speech, Crockett stated, “Folks show also took from somebody named Jeffrey Epstein, as I had my team dig into very quickly, Mitt Romney, the NRCC, Lee Zeldin, George Bush, WinRed McCain-Palin, and Rick Lazio.”
The problem for Crockett is that she had the wrong guy.
She or her staff put the list of Republicans together so quickly that they did not realize that the Jeffrey Epstein listed in FEC records for those individuals was not the same Jeffrey Epstein who hanged himself in his jail cell rather than live out the rest of his life in prison.
Crockett wanted to make a splash, but she was standing on the wrong side of the fan when it splattered.
Zeldin, a former congressman and current Trump administration EPA chief, was among those named by Crockett, and he took almost no time at all to respond.
He stated, "Yes Crockett, a physician named Dr. Jeffrey Epstein (who is a totally different person than the other Jeffrey Epstein) donated to a prior campaign of mine. NO [clap emoji] FREAKIN [clap emoji] RELATION [clap emoji] YOU [clap emoji] GENIUS!!!"
Meghan McCain also responded, stating, My Dad has been dead 7 years @RepJasmine. He never met Jeffrey Epstein, let alone took money from him. The Jeffrey Epstein you are referencing is an entirely different human being. Do you have mashed potatoes for brains, you absolute joke?!”
Crockett would be given a chance by the media, but she offered up one of the lamest excuses I have ever heard.
Crockett appeared on CNN to explain her comments, but she tried to make it sound like she had done nothing wrong.
She stated, “Listen, I never said that it was that Jeffrey Epstein. Just so that people understand, when you make a donation, your picture is not there. And because they decided to spring this on us, in real time, I wanted the Republicans to think about what could potentially happen, because I knew that they didn’t even try to go through the [Federal Election Commission].”
The Democrat continued, “So my team, what they did is they Googled, and that is specifically why I said a Jeffrey Epstein. Unlike Republicans, I at least don’t go out and just tell lies. Because it was not the same one? That’s fine. But when Lee Zeldin had something to say, all he had to say was, it was a different Jeffrey Epstein. He admitted that he did receive donations from a Jeffrey Epstein. So, at least I wasn’t trying to mislead people … I literally had maybe 20 minutes before I had to do that debate.”
Now, Kaitlan Collins has never had a problem calling bu***it on anyone, so I have no idea how she could sit there with a straight face and accept that answer. Also, keep in mind, Crockett is a woman who is being dubbed the future of the Democrat Party, and this is the nonsense that she is pulling. She thought she had Republicans over a barrel when she saw that name; that is why she used it. She got caught, and she is putting on a world-class spin to try to get herself out of trouble. I just hope people are not stupid enough to buy her excuse.
