My question today was about a quote from the Federalist Papers that talked about the need for government because men are not angels, to which I responded, "What happens when corruption saturates the government?" Our comment today comes from Russel D. from North Dakota, who responded:
“This is the core of the problem. Madison's genius was in creating controls on government, knowing it would be run by flawed men. What we have now is a government where the ‘angels’ (the political elite, the deep state) have convinced themselves they are above those controls."
“The answer isn't to get rid of government; it's to restore the checks and balances that the swamp has eroded. It's time to enforce the law equally, fire the corrupt, and remind them that we are the final check on their power.”
I agree with the premise, Russell, but I worry that even after promising to drain the swamp in 2016, many of those swamp dwellers are still in office today, and the American people continue to vote for them even after they are outed. If we continue to elect corrupt officials to office, we have no hope of ever having an honest government that truly represents We the People.
