Kai Trump, granddaughter of President Donald Trump, burst onto the scene at the Republican National Convention (RNC) back in 2024.
She turned her convention speech into a role as a high-profile content creator, and she started to grow her social media accounts, often featuring golf or interviews with prominent golfers she had met because of her grandfather.
Kai then committed to attend the University of Miami and play on its golf team, and she recently appeared in her first pro tournament. It went about as expected, but that did not stop the liberal trolls from unloading on her.
When Donald Trump announced his run for office in 2024, the media and Democrats went back to portraying him as some type of monster.
I would imagine that was part of the reason why Kai wanted to speak at the convention that summer… simply to help her grandfather.
During her speech, she stated, “To me, he’s just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents are not looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school.”
Ms. Trump's speech worked, as the president often appeared near tears while she spoke. It humanized the former -- and future -- president, something that was badly needed at the time.
After that speech, Kai remained in the national spotlight. Her social media accounts started to blow up, especially with regard to her golf content.
She often featured rounds played with her grandfather, then, as her profile grew, she also started to feature rounds played with prominent athletes.
Now that her mother is dating Tiger Woods, Kai Trump is really on everyone’s radar.
Then it was announced that she formally committed to Miami to play Division 1 golf. That, of course, brought out the internet trolls, who decided to criticize everything about her golf game, even though most of the people slamming her probably could not break 100 on the course.
When I heard that Kai had received an exemption to play in a professional event, I just knew the trolls would be hoping that she would fail. I remember what happened when Charlie Woods, Tiger’s son, appeared at his first event as a teenager.
It was much the same thing for Kai, as she finished in last place, not able to card a single birdie. The internet critics were out in droves to try to take her down, but she appears to be taking it all in stride.
On her tournament performance, she stated, "I was definitely more nervous than I expected, but I thought I hit a lot of great shots out there. I hit a lot of good shots just to the wrong spots." She also noted that she was sometimes outdriving some of the pros, truly making lemonade out of lemons.
People are going to go after Kai simply because she is Donald Trump’s granddaughter, and that has to be torturous for the president, because he truly loves his grandchildren. I just hope Kai can keep her head above the internet firestorm she is facing because if she can, the experience she gains from these tournaments now will be invaluable as she progresses in her golf career.
