There was a time when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was the fiercest of Donald Trump’s MAGA supporters in Congress.
Those days are long gone, as she recently even appeared on ABC's The View, and wound up getting tormented by MAGA for doing so.
So, what is it that led to Greene going from Trump’s fiercest defender to someone who now has no problem calling out the president?
Greene always had a game plan with Trump, and it was to be loyal and then be rewarded. After all, that is what Trump always preached to everyone about his inner circle. Greene went to work on Trump's behalf as soon as she took her seat in Congress, and she defended him fiercely through the 2024 campaign. The man could do no wrong, but then came the time to name Cabinet members.
Not only was her name not mentioned, but “brand-new people” to the MAGA movement, such as Elon Musk, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, were getting high-profile positions while she was sitting on the sidelines.
This clearly upset Greene, who stated, "Those are brand-new people. RFK, Vivek, they both tried to beat [Trump] in the presidential race this year. So I'm glad that they're supporting President Trump, I want them on the team for their strengths, but I also don't think that we put them in charge of everything.”
She continued, "It's important to realize who stood with President Trump from the beginning, never backed down, never stabbed him in the back, never tried to beat him. And there's those of us that have been very loyal. We understand his policies, we support them through and through. And I'd like to see people like us that have done that very much involved."
With no Cabinet appointment forthcoming, Greene then expressed interest in challenging Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) for his seat in the upcoming 2026 cycle, but there were whispers at the time that Trump did not want her to mount a campaign.
Trump reportedly asked Tony Fabrizio to run a poll to see how she would do, and the results were not good, with Greene losing to Ossoff by nearly 20 points. When Greene was asked about the report, she responded, “I have never spoken with President Trump about running for Senate or any other race. But for some reason, some consultants and aids are leaking to the usual tools in the media in order to promote the narrative they want to tell about me.”
She continued, “You would think these people would be embracing me because I’ve fought the hardest for [Trump], but the problem is they are not on my payroll.”
Now, Fabrizio and Greene do not have the friendliest of histories, and she felt like he purposely tainted the poll to get Trump not to back her for the seat. She more or less accused him of hand-selecting 800 people that he knew would go against her to participate in the poll. This was when things really started to go downhill between Trump and MTG.
Greene has since pushed back on the big, beautiful bill, the Epstein files, and now she is calling out Republicans and Trump over the government shutdown, demanding they extend Obamacare subsidies to reopen the government.
She even went on The View this week, burying the hatchet with the liberal panel. When co-host Sunny Hostin thanked her for not taking a combative tone, MTG responded, "I didn’t want to do that today, because I believe that people with powerful voices like myself and like you and especially women-to-women, we need to pave a new path. This country, our beautiful country – our red, white, and blue flag – is just being ripped to shreds and I think it takes women of maturity to sew it back together, and I think that happens through free speech.”
Shockingly, the crowd ate up just about everything she was saying, and the panel did as well, with Hostin telling her, "I’m sitting here just stumped. You know, because you are a very different person than I thought you were." She later added, "It's like you're on the left now," which was like the kiss of death for Greene in the eyes of MAGA stalwarts.
I won’t print the comments made about her on social media, but if you care to look up the thread, I think it's safe to say that Greene and MAGA are no longer buddies. They say there is nothing worse than a woman scorned, or in this case, snubbed. Greene still has a MAGA agenda, and she is still fighting, but she is definitely no longer in the Trump inner circle. And if the feedback online is any indication, her MAGA card has been revoked.
