President Donald Trump scored a bit of a victory this week when the United Nations (U.N.) accepted his 20-point Gaza peace plan.
Trump presented the plan more than a month ago, and former President Joe Biden tried to take credit for the peace deal almost immediately.
This is a significant win for Trump, as he continues to build his foreign policy legacy.
Trump’s plan played a key role in both Israel and Hamas accepting the ceasefire proposal, which started with Hamas returning all hostages, dead or alive.
In order for the plan to move forward, all hostages must be returned, a process that is still playing out, as Hamas claimed it did not have the location of some of the dead captives, but they have been slowly returning them to Israel.
A major part of the plan centered on the demilitarization of the area and the provision of immediate aid for the people of Gaza.
Trump has also agreed to work with other countries in the Middle East to rebuild the region. He has also called for the disarmament of Gaza. There are 20 points in the plan overall.
After the peace deal was announced, Biden did his best to take credit for the deal, claiming that Trump had essentially stolen his framework for peace.
Biden, at the time, stated, “I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come -- for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives.”
The former president continued, “The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line.”
Now, I don’t want to be the one to call Joe Biden a liar, but not a single foreign official mentioned him in any way, shape, or form when this peace deal was reached, so I find it hard to believe that he had any input whatsoever in the deal that ultimately took shape.
On Monday, the U.N. Security Council formally approved a resolution greenlighting the terms and paving the way for Trump’s plan to be officially put in place.
Ambassador Mike Waltz stated, "Voting yes today isn’t just endorsing a plan. It’s affirming our shared humanity. A vote against this resolution is a vote to return to war."
Waltz later added, "This resolution charts a path for Palestinian self-determination after the Palestinian Authority completes key reforms. It dismantles Hamas’s grip and ensures Gaza rises free from terror’s shadow -- prosperous and secure."
This is exactly the news that Trump needed right now, as he has been taking some massive hits in the media. It’s not enough to kill the other stories, but at least it stops the cycle of nothing but negative stories on Trump that are blowing up right now.
