This little movement within the Democrat Party to use our military as pawns against Donald Trump is sickening to me.
And it just got worse.
Of all people, now Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is chatting up troops, apparently encouraging them to buck up and defy orders from the president and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
We all know about the video that a group of Democrats made to encourage members of the service to defy “illegal orders” from the commander in chief.
Their desire was clear… any orders coming down to strike drug boats are illegal, even though at least one member of the group has admitted on TV that while they don’t agree with the orders, they cannot prove they are illegal.
This was a political stunt undertaken for two purposes. The first one was to elicit a response from Trump, and it worked. The second was to get some media headlines, and that also worked, especially for Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), who is now the darling of the media.
For instance, Kelly recently appeared on CNN to defend himself, stating, "I think it's important to say that there is nothing more American than standing up for the Constitution, that's what we were doing. President didn't like it, so now he calls for us to be hanged.”
For the record, Trump never called for them to be hanged, but he did state that the penalty for seditious behavior could be death. Trump did repost a follower who recommended they be hanged, which is ill-advised, but the president was not the one who made the assertion. If we are going to hold Trump accountable for his reposts as though they were original statements, then I can give you a long list of Democrats we need to start going after on the same front immediately.
While a number of Democrats have been applauding the video, Republican former service members are going nuclear over the video and the problems it could cause.
For instance, Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA), an Air Force veteran, responded, "I’ve flown combat missions, and I know what happens when people disobey an order. This cannot happen to the men and women who are serving right now."
Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA), a veteran of both the Navy and Marines, responded, "What he said was egregious for multiple reasons. I thought it was very dishonest of him to say, ‘We have your back.’ No, they don’t.”
Do people realize what happens when you start to question orders? This could literally cost lives, not to mention careers. But I truly believe that is the chaos that Democrats are hoping to create.
If there is an attack against Trump afoot, you better believe Swalwell will stick his nose in there, and that is what he just did regarding the suggestion that orders be defied. He is apparently spending time with our troops, likely encouraging them to disregard their superiors just as the other six urged in their video.
He stated, "What gives me hope, and I talk to service members all the time. They tell me that I don't appreciate enough and the public doesn't appreciate enough that while Congress is not a check on the president anymore, and the judiciary at the Supreme Court is hardly a check, military members have told me, ‘We can be a check.”
He continued, "They’re essentially saying, ‘We’re not going to betray our oath to the Constitution because this guy tells us to.’ While it's not codified that way -- they're not a branch of government on their own -- their honor and integrity might just save us."
I would call this conduct treasonous, but I am not sure that would hold up during a military tribunal or in a court of law. It is despicable, though, to use our military as pawns in this political game. If you don’t like the strikes, fight them in Congress, not by telling military members they can start defyinng orders. I just cannot comprehend that this is where our political world has taken us.
