The trickle-down effect of this year’s election is already starting to reverberate through the Democrat Party.
The number one target on the list for removal is Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Schumer was put on notice when he helped the GOP pass its continuing resolution (CR) in March, so he dug in deep this time, but it is too late. With Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral win, he is now on the chopping block in the eyes of progressive Democrats who want to ride this socialist wave into party leadership.
Schumer did not support the March CR, but he did help Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) pass a procedural vote that enabled the Republicans to break the filibuster and pass the measure with a simple majority.
When he did, he was shredded for it. Ezra Levin, co-founder of activist group Indivisible, blasted Schumer, as did many notable Democrats, such as Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Levin stated, “He unilaterally relinquished the biggest point of leverage he has this year. If your strategic analysis ends with you voting for the bill that Mike Johnson, John Thune, Donald Trump and Elon Musk want, you should rethink your strategy.”
Levin continued, “It’s a strategic blunder and tragic mistake. But currently it’s his blunder -- I hope he’s alone out there on that ledge. No Democratic senator should follow him.”
AOC has been a polarizing figure from day one, and she is the unchallenged golden child of this socialist movement, to the point that the far left is now calling on her to challenge Schumer for his Senate seat.
In a March poll taken after the “Schumer surrender,” AOC was leading Schumer in a hypothetical primary battle 55% to 36%, with only 9% undecided. That had to give Schumer a wake-up call, which is why I believe he is digging in now.
Many Democrats took the poll seriously, as 84% wanted Democrats to do more to oppose Trump, and that is right around the time the “bad orange man” syndrome swept through the party again. If Trump liked it, Democrats hated it.
We never saw this more than with the outrage over Trump’s East Wing renovation plans. If Obama had done something similar, Democrats would have called it the greatest transformation in White House history. But it was Trump, so it was akin to ripping apart the People’s House and was seen as completely unacceptable. And I won’t even go into what happened when his administration dared to say that using acetaminophen may be linked to autism.
After election results were posted on Tuesday night, Our Revolution, a group founded by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), pounced to gain an advantage. Joseph Geevarghese, the group’s executive director, stated, “Here’s the topline takeaway: Mamdami and his message about the crisis of affordability defeated Donald Trump, the Democratic establishment, and the donor classes of both parties. But don’t expect the entrenched political establishment or corporate media pundits to acknowledge this political reality.”
He added, “They’ll leave out the hard truths: Chuck Schumer and the Democratic establishment are losing relevance, AIPAC and the pro-Israel lobby have become toxic forces in Democratic politics, voters are fed up with the gerontocracy and political corruption, and a united grassroots movement built on a working-class agenda can -- and will -- beat the billionaire-backed status quo.”
He then claimed that Mamdani’s win was “a bellwether” signifying that progressives are “poised to defeat the establishment.” In other words, cave to our demands or be left behind.
This was always my fear if Mamdani won, and it is coming true. This radical socialist movement is gaining traction in this country, and its leaders are taking over major cities, with New York City, the largest metropolis in the country, the greatest prize of all to date. They have a foothold, and we'd better find a way to loosen it or, in a decade or so, this country will look nothing like the vision our Founding Fathers had when they shed blood for our independence.
