If you enjoy my analysis and prognostication skills, you are really going to like the first two reports in this edition, starting with this one.
Something odd is going on within the Democrat Party and media that has me believing that California Governor Gavin Newsom is not the chosen one for the upcoming Democrat Primary.
These are not blatantly obvious signs, but he is taking hits, and it started after he took over the polling lead over Kamala Harris.
Newsom has been emulating Donald Trump on social media, and, quite frankly, in person, to raise his profile, and it has definitely worked.
The problem for Newsom, however, is that the more you act like Trump, the very person you are trying to get people to despise, the more you become Trump. And we have seen this with Newsom shilling Trump kneepads at overseas conferences.
When I tell you guys I read everything, I do mean everything, which recently included an op-ed in the New University (University of California, Irvine). It was not a blatant hit piece against Newsom, but it called him out for promoting the idea that Trump’s behavior is the only real way to obtain success in politics.
The piece stated, “Every time his imitation of Trump heightens his level of fame, it shows other politicians that dramatic and careless statements are the most reliable path to political power. It teaches citizens that online attention matters more than thoughtful negotiation, and Trump’s chaotic influence becomes further entrenched in the American understanding of democracy. If Newsom prioritizes popularity over promoting a healthier leadership style, he doesn’t defeat Trump — he becomes him.”
Reports this week stated that Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is already all-in on Gavin Newsom, gushing over him like a teenage cheerleader gawking at the QB captain of the football team.
But what about the “other” kingmakers in the party? What about Barack Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who holds the progressive left in the palm of his hand?
Obama took a shot at Newsom without taking a direct shot. He hit California on homelessness, but California is Gavin Newsom right now. Obama stated, "I think it is morally — ethically speaking — it is an atrocity that in a country this wealthy, we have people just on the streets, and we should insist on policies that recognize their full humanity — people who are houseless — and be able to provide them with the help and resources that they need.”
Obama was specifically speaking about the situation in Los Angeles. Now, Newsom’s office regularly boasts about his efforts to solve this crisis, and it did so in response to Obama’s comments. When you fire a shot like that at a key issue of a frontrunner in your party for the next presidential nomination, that is a very loud shot.
Gavin Newsom has been adamant that a “rich” tax will not work in California because while it will give you a short-term windfall, you are going to chase residents and businesses out of the state.
Sanders was recently in California, and called for the tax to be put in place, stating, “Starting right here in California these billionaires are going to learn we are still living in a democratic society where the people have the power. Never before in American history have we seen the kind of greed, arrogance and moral turpitude.”
It was the same tired theme that Sanders has been kicking around for years, “make billionaires pay their fair share.”
So, what is the end game here? I can only think of two possibilities for Dems not wanting Newsom to be at the top of ticket, and they are called Kamala Harris and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ). Newsom’s record is abysmal, and he lies through his teeth every time he opens his mouth. Perhaps the power brokers other than starry-eyed Pelosi see that and do not believe he can win a presidential election. Something is clearly amiss here, and is a situation I will continue to watch, as well as the polls, to see if Newsom continues to slide or if recent polling is just an outlier that will correct itself.
