Are Dems trying to eliminate Crockett from the Senate election?

When Stephen Colbert pitched a fit about his interview with Democrat state Rep. James Talarico (TX-50), I initially thought it was just Colbert being Colbert.

But then I realized how deeply he is with the power brokers in the party, especially Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

That stunt garnered Talarico about $2.5 million in 24 hours, as well as giving him a large public boost. Could it be that the Democrat establishment is trying to help him recover from the surge by Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) to give them a better chance in the general election?

The Colbert stunt

So, the fastest way to get attention for someone these days is to act like the Trump administration is trying to shut you down, which is what Colbert did for his interview with Talarico.

On Monday’s show, Colbert stated, “He [Talarico] was supposed to be here, but we were told in no uncertain terms by our network's lawyers, who called us directly, that we could not have him on the broadcast.”

He continued, “Then, then I was told in some uncertain terms that not only could I not have him on, I could not mention me not having him on. And because my network clearly doesn't want us to talk about this, let's talk about this.”

So, if he was told not to talk about it, how did he get away with talking about it? And what he was told is that if he aired the interview, he would have to give equal time to Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), and likely to the Republican candidates because it is election season. This was clearly a stunt.

And it worked

Talarico and Colbert both got to play the victim by claiming the bad orange man was trying to shut them up.

Talarico’s campaign drew a reported $2.5 million in 24 hours.

He then stated, “This is truly a people-powered movement to take on this broken, corrupt political system. This is a campaign of, by and for the people. It was a real honor to vote today. I look forward to winning this primary, winning this general election and delivering for working people in our state in the United States Senate.”

In the latest polling, Talarico finally surrendered his lead to Crockett, but Talarico, at least to this point, outperforms Crockett against the GOP candidates. So, you tell me if this does not seem fishy, especially when you consider how friendly Colbert is with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Momentum shift

Up until Monday night, Crockett had all the momentum on her side, but that just changed. Democrat strategist Joel Montfort explained, “It’s really convenient timing for Talarico’s campaign to have this gold nugget placed in their hand, and to be able to utilize it to increase his profile, raise it and bring in dollars right here as we go into early voting.”

Jon Taylor, a political science professor at the University of Texas, San Antonio, added, “Free media is never a bad thing. Especially in a close U.S. Senate race where you’re already trying to spend a lot of money, this was an amazing amount of free advertising.”

Crockett also seemed to realize what was happening, stating, The ‘Late Show’ decided that this [uploading the interview online] was the option, and I think that it was a good strategy. I mean, look at what happened when they tried to censor CECOT.” She continued, “We found out that you could get a lot more views. So, I think it probably gave my opponent the boost he was looking for.”

This entire hoax, and it was a hoax, make no mistake about that, was set up to give Talarico a boost to get him past Crockett to give Democrats the best chance of winning Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-TX) seat this November. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but I am going to die on this hill.
