The Bush family was about as close to the Republican equivalent of the Kennedys for quite some time.
Conservatives embraced the clan for many years, even though they were undeniably entrenched in the D.C. swamp, only observing a hiatus once Donald Trump came on the scene.
Trump derailed Jeb Bush’s run for the White House, then declared war on the family, and its members responded in kind. Now, apparently, the family is planning a comeback.
The Bush family never helped Trump during an election; it was the exact opposite, actually.
During the last presidential cycle, members of the Bush family actually worked directly against Trump by helping the Harris campaign.
For instance, Barbara Bush, the daughter of former Republican President George W. Bush, campaigned with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
She told People magazine, “It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend. I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
I am just curious to exactly which women’s rights she was referring to, because Harris supports abortion and biological men playing in women’s sports.
George Bush, while not even endorsing Trump, has kept a bit of a low profile on this front, but that went out the window when the current president went after the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Bush threw a veiled shot at Trump by releasing a video on the matter, stating of the organization and its staff, “You’ve showed the great strength of America through your work -- and that is your good heart.”
He continued, “Is it in our national interests that 25 million people who would have died now live? I think it is, and so do you.”
Trump is vulnerable right now, and everyone knows it, and the Bush family is apparently planning an attack designed to get its name atop the GOP hierarchy once again.
A report in the Daily Mail claimed that the former president is very quietly working to help shape the GOP once Trump leaves office. The report stated, “Behind the scenes, and still with deep connections around the country, a shadow Republican Party is lying in wait to take over when Trump is gone.”
It continued, “And, while the former president is determined not to publicly criticize Trump -- much to the frustration of some of his former aides -- he may not be averse to quietly helping to shape the Republican Party’s long-term future.”
If this happens, rest assured, the GOP will lose in 2028 because the party will be completely split down the middle. You will have MAGA supporters gathering behind Vance, while establishment Republicans get behind the Bush-endorsed candidate. Regardless of who wins such a primary race, the loser’s supporters will never support him or her in the 2028 general election. As such, this concerns me very much.
