I just read an opinion piece written for Fox News by Rep. Vince Fong (R-CA), someone who may soon be out of a job if California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s gerrymandered district maps hold up to legal scrutiny.
Fong takes some big shots at Newsom along the way.
The lawmaker's primary point in the piece is his belief that Newsom is putting our national security at risk with his aggressive green energy agenda.
I brought up this op-ed about Newsom's agenda because he is likely going to be the frontrunner for the Democrats in the 2028 presidential cycle.
In September, Newsom signed a sweeping overhaul of California’s energy policies.
Democrats had the boot on the throat of the oil industry, but Newsom seemed to realize that he was sending jobs out of his state by cutting back on drilling.
Newsom’s new policies increased oil drilling, but many in the industry said it was too little, too late. Not only were oil companies already leaving the state, but Newsom was also facing challenges from other California officials who declared his plan “dead in the water.” To put it simply, industry officials believed that California was no longer a good business risk, so they were pulling out in droves.
In October, a report was published by Wood Mackenzie on the stalled state of oil production in this country, with growth insufficient to spur more drilling.
The New York Times also published a report regarding the lower rate of oil production, a scenario that is exactly the opposite of what Donald Trump was hoping for when he took office.
Travis Stice, former chief executive of Diamondback, stated, “It is likely that U.S. onshore oil production has peaked and will begin to decline this quarter. To use a driving analogy, we are taking our foot off the accelerator as we approach a red light.”
This is all the after-effects of Biden administration policies and continued attacks on Big Oil by Democrats. Liberals have created a crisis that never needed to exist.
That brings us to Fong’s op-ed, which is very important when you consider that Newsom has a very good chance of sitting in the Oval Office in little more than three years.
He wrote, “As California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom traveled to Brazil touting his failed energy agenda in mid-November, the reality back home is unavoidable: because of his policies, Californians are paying some of the highest gas and electricity prices in the nation. We are being crushed by the Newsom energy affordability crisis -- and it’s crippling our national security.”
During that trip, Newsom was bragging about how EVs will dominate transportation in his state within a decade. The more gasoline-powered engines go away, the more oil companies stop producing, and the more our national security is threatened.
The decrease in production has put certain pipelines at risk because they are simply no longer profitable. This means that our country is dangerously close to losing its energy independence, and without that, the nation is extremely vulnerable to enemies and adversaries.
