Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made headlines recently for calling Donald Trump a “vile creature” and the “worst thing” on the face of the earth.
This week, she was on CNN when Anderson Cooper gave her a chance to take those statements back.
Instead, the two of them had a good laugh, with Cooper even asking Pelosi if she wanted to call Trump something worse.
Politicians have always thrown mud, dating back to the very beginning of our government.
However, once Trump entered the arena during the 2016 election cycle, everything was ramped up.
Democrats threw everything they had at him, and Trump was more than happy to return fire.
Over the last decade, the heat has increased considerably to the point that it would be hard to argue that the rhetoric on both sides has not contributed to the violence against political figures in this country.
Earlier this month, Pelosi was appearing on CNN with Elex Michaelson when she had a Trump meltdown, stating, "He’s just a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the earth.”
Michaelson asked for clarification, and if Pelosi really meant what she said, and she responded, "I do, yeah, I do.”
NRCC National War Room director Ben Petersen came to Trump’s defense, stating, "More dehumanizing Democrat language about Republicans.”
Now, I get why people go after Trump like this. I mean, he just called a reporter he did not like “Piggy,” but Democrats pretend to be above the fray on this, but they clearly are not.
This weekend, Cooper asked Pelosi to revisit those comments, and as the question was coming out of his mouth, Pelosi could not hold back her laughter.
Cooper asked, "One of the things you said recently in an interview, you said that President Trump was a vile creature, the worst thing on the face of the Earth. Do you think he‘s different now than he was in his first term in terms of his abilities, his leadership?"
Pelosi responded, "By the way, I said that as a euphemism. I could have done much worse." Cooper then actually asked her if she wanted to call him something worse, but Pelosi let it go.
The longtime lawmaker had the chance to dial this down the first time, but she made it quite clear how she felt about Trump, and that’s fine. My point is that liberals cannot pretend they are not part of this problem and put the onus for increasingly hostile rhetoric on the president alone. Dems are just as bad, if not worse, overall. So, here is a crazy idea… how about everyone turns off their 8-year-old personalities and talks to each other like adults for once? Stop the childish and immature name-calling and try to be the grown-ups in the room. Act like you are running the country, not running around in a daycare center.
