Omar seeks campaign cash as immigration fraud probe intensifies

Ilhan Omar asked supporters for donations from her car as a federal immigration probe intensifies, framing the scrutiny as political intimidation by the Trump administration.

The Minnesota Democrat posted a minute-long Instagram video Tuesday night from the back of a vehicle. She thanked followers, vowed to hit the campaign trail again, and urged them to send money right away.

New York Post reporting detailed the pitch against the backdrop of a years-long federal investigation into possible immigration fraud tied to her status.

Homeland Security Investigations agents, the federal unit that pursues immigration-related crime, had already searched her Washington, D.C., home. They seized her phone, notebooks, computers, and passport the week before the video dropped.

Agents were photographed leaving that same D.C. residence on Oct. 12, 2026. The Trump administration is building a case that could result in her deportation to Somalia, her native country. Omar has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

Passport seized, then the donation pitch

In the video, Omar cast the entire probe as an effort to scare her and others into silence ahead of the midterms. She told supporters the money would help her push back.

Omar said the funds would let her “fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many other people right before the midterm elections.”

She kept the tone defiant and aimed straight at her base.

“We know that they’re running scared, we’re not going to be intimidated, we’re not going to be silenced, we’re not going to be scared,”

Omar then promised to campaign hard and flip control of Congress.

“I’ll be out there campaigning alongside all of you and making sure that we beat back all of this and that we win in the midterms, win the House, win the Senate and hold this administration accountable,”

She closed by making the ask concrete and small-dollar.

“It is going to be a very expensive and challenging time and so we appreciate whether you’re able to send $5, $10, $20,”

Omar added thanks and signed off. The clip stayed inside the car the entire time.

Federal pressure built for years before the video

The Instagram appeal did not arrive in a vacuum. Federal investigators have spent years examining possible immigration fraud connected to the congresswoman. The recent home search and seizure of her passport marked a clear escalation.

That activity tracks with earlier steps in the same case, including the D.C. home raid that netted her phone and other materials.

Lawful residents and taxpayers expect citizenship rules to apply evenly. When a sitting member of Congress faces a fraud probe that includes seizure of travel documents, the public is entitled to straight facts, not a fundraising frame that labels enforcement as intimidation.

Questions have also reached family members in the same inquiry, part of the broader pattern after investigators spoke with Omar’s sister following the search.

Omar’s own words treat the timing as proof of political motive. The record shows a sustained investigation, physical evidence collection, and an administration prepared to pursue removal to Somalia if the facts support it.

Deportation remains on the table if fraud is shown

Nothing in the public account describes charges filed or a final determination. What is established is case-building that could end in deportation, the seizure of core personal documents, and a congresswoman who answered with a donation drive rather than a full public accounting.

Senior officials have already stated she could face loss of citizenship and removal if fraud is proven. That is the enforcement baseline, not a partisan stunt.

President Trump has likewise pointed to possible jail time or deportation tied to the citizenship questions. Omar’s video skipped those substance issues and went straight to the contribution link.

She called the moment expensive and challenging. Federal agents holding her passport and electronic records make that description accurate, for reasons that have nothing to do with midterm messaging.

Equal application of immigration law protects every lawful resident who followed the rules. Members of Congress do not get a special exemption when investigators show up with warrants and leave with devices and travel documents.

Omar wants $5, $10, or $20 to “beat back” the probe. Voters first deserve a clear answer on whether the immigration paperwork was clean from the start.
