Federal investigators question Ilhan Omar’s sister after HSI raid on congresswoman’s D.C. home

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s older sister sat for federal questioning after Homeland Security agents raided the congresswoman’s D.C. home in an immigration fraud probe that could threaten her citizenship.

Sahra Noor voluntarily spoke with federal investigators last week, three sources familiar with the probe told Fox News Digital, after Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at the Washington residence Omar shares with her husband, Tim Mynett.

Agents hit the home around 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12. The inquiry centers on whether Omar or her father falsified information on her citizenship paperwork. Border czar Tom Homan has said that if the allegations hold, the case could lead to denaturalization.

Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, has not been charged. She has not been seen in public since before the raid. Her office calls the search political intimidation. The White House says the facts and the law will decide what comes next.

Family texts opened the door to the warrant

Investigators did not stumble into this case cold. The New York Post reported that a family text message on Sahra Noor’s phone helped trigger the warrant for the Monday raid.

Agents had already seized Noor’s phone earlier this year as they examined whether the Somalia-born lawmaker conspired to commit immigration fraud when her family entered the United States as refugees in the 1990s. The focus includes possible lies about Omar’s birth date and age so she could gain citizenship as a minor under her father’s status.

Breitbart reported that agents previously collected DNA from Omar’s trash without a warrant, and that the case is expected to go before a federal grand jury in Minnesota. Relatives have been pulled into the paper trail.

That DNA work fits a wider pattern already laid out in prior coverage of how federal agents hunted Ilhan Omar’s DNA in her trash while building the immigration fraud file.

During the D.C. search, agents took Omar’s personal phone, passport, and computer, the Wall Street Journal reported, along with notebooks and other devices noted in later accounts. Omar’s attorneys later demanded the Justice Department return some of the seized property.

The New York Times reported that about a dozen people, including Omar’s relatives, have been subpoenaed. The Washington Examiner added that officials are examining whether Omar or her father altered her age on the citizenship application to list her as 17 instead of 18, and that authorities issued more than a dozen subpoenas tied to family immigration paperwork.

Noor canceled a Minnesota book stop after the interview

Noor, author of “Salt in the Snow: A Somali Immigrant Story,” came to the United States as a child fleeing Somalia’s civil war, as Omar did. Her LinkedIn page lists a current home in Kenya, but she has been in the United States promoting the book.

After speaking with investigators, she scrubbed a scheduled Thursday, Oct. 15 appearance at the University of Minnesota Rochester. A Garden Party Books representative said the stop was canceled because Noor had a “family emergency.” Fox News Digital reached out to Noor and received no reply before publication.

The precise scope of her interview remains unclear. What is clear is the sequence: warrant, dawn search, sister questioned, public schedule wiped.

Omar calls it weaponization; Vance says follow the evidence

Hours after agents left the D.C. home, Omar posted a statement on X framing the search as retaliation.

"This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies. For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back. Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies."

She did not respond to repeated requests for comment from Fox News Digital. Progressive allies have echoed the intimidation charge and tied the timing to her reelection fight in Minnesota.

Vice President JD Vance pushed back in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital last Tuesday. He drew a hard line against the selective enforcement he said defined the prior administration.

"We don't want to be like the Biden administration. We never want to be like that, where they would allow the law to go after their political opponents."

"We really want to let the law, the facts drive this. And if justice requires something else be done, then, of course, we'll take a step when we have to."

That posture matches earlier signals when Homan confirmed an ICE criminal investigation while Omar said federal agents had not contacted her. The probe has only widened since.

Over the weekend, Homan said publicly that proven fraud could strip Omar of citizenship. The stakes are not abstract. Denaturalization is rare, but it is a lawful tool when citizenship was obtained by material falsehoods. Coverage of how the border czar outlined possible deportation consequences already put that remedy on the table.

Search rules and case strength now under scrutiny

Omar’s lawyers have challenged how the search was carried out, accusing the Justice Department of brushing past limits a judge set on the warrant. Those claims track reporting on how Omar’s legal team accused DOJ of ignoring the judge’s search rules in the same fraud investigation.

Republicans watching the file describe a methodical case, not a press release. Sen. Markwayne Mullin and others have pointed to multiple warrants and a growing paper trail as signs the evidence is real. Readers can weigh that against prior accounts in which Mullin called the immigration probe a strong case after the multi-warrant searches.

Mynett has been seen outside the D.C. home walking the dog, taking out trash, and talking with one of Omar’s aides. He has defended her immigration timeline in comments captured on video. No transcript of those remarks appears in the primary reporting.

No arrests were announced with the raid. No charging document has been made public. The government has the phones, the passport, the computers, the subpoenas, the family texts, and the DNA collected from discarded trash. Omar has a denial and a politics charge.

Citizenship is not a costume. If the paperwork was clean, the evidence should clear her. If it was not, no member of Congress gets a special shield from the same rules everyone else lives under.
