New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani was engulfed in controversy when he was running for mayor, but nobody seemed to care about his past comments and actions regarding his anti-Israel stance.
Democrats defended him, and Mamdani smiled his way through interviews to convince everyone he was not an antisemite or a radical.
Now he has appointed Tamika Mallory to his administration, and if that does not raise some red flags, I don’t know what will.
It was not just Republicans and Jewish organizations that were throwing up flares, as members of the Democrat Party were doing the same.
For instance, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro ripped Mamdani before the election for failing to call out antisemitic rhetoric.
During an interview, he stated, “You have to speak and act with moral clarity, and when supporters of yours say things that are blatantly antisemitic, you can’t leave room for that to just sit there. You’ve got to condemn that.”
There were others as well, such as Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA). Even some of the members of the party who backed Mamdani said they were doing so only because he was the Democrat nominee, but they did not support his agenda.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was adamantly against Mamdani, going so far as to set up a tip line for antisemitism in the city.
This was taken as a direct affront to the Mamdani campaign by his supporters.
Jonathan Greenblatt, the chief executive of the ADL, defended the tip line, stating that it was “not designed to criticize the mayor” but was instead “a data-driven approach that simply looks at the facts.” He added, “There is nothing inherently combative or critical about that.”
When the ADL was accused of setting a different standard for Mamdani than the ADL had set for Trump, Greenblatt responded, “The reality is President Trump wasn’t elected on a track record that included a long animus to the Jewish state.”
This week, Mamdani announced that he was adding Tamika Mallory to his administration as part of the city safety committee, and it turned quite a few heads.
Mallary is a Black Lives Matter activist, has supported anti-Semitic Louis Farrakhan, as well as Linda Sarsour.
Mamdani announced, “We just convened a meeting with more than 400 New York leaders -- the best of our city that money can’t buy. These are the people that New Yorkers look to for wisdom and for guidance … and I have entrusted them with a mighty responsibility: to lead these committees and provide the policy and hiring recommendations that our transition team will turn to as we prepare to begin governing on January 1.”
This is exactly what we warned New Yorkers about before this election, and this is exactly what they are getting. And now you know why I continue to be upset about Trump having Mamdani at the White House, with an apparent lovefest taking place before the media.
