Many on the left, including members of Congress, have referred to Trump administration adviser Stephen Miller as a Jewish Nazi and/or white supremacist.
When this happens on liberal cable news panel shows, there is never any resistance offered by the hosts.
Well, Katie Miller, Stephen Miller’s wife, appeared on CNN this weekend, and she directly confronted Abby Phillip for not pushing back when network guests use these slurs to describe her husband.
During a recent episode of the podcast I’ve Had It, Jennifer Welch and CNN’s Abby Phillip were discussing Stephen Miller. You knew it was going to be interesting when the episode was titled, "Keeping Up with the Cult.”
During the podcast, Welch stated, “Stephen Miller is a white supremacist. I mean, he is. And he’s basically running the White House. They keep [President Donald] Trump busy with his decorating projects.”
She continued, “He’s got building the arch now. He’s got his Oval Office design. And then you have these real sociopaths that are real antisemites, true white supremacists like Stephen Miller. And even though he’s Jewish, he’s like a Nazi Jew.”
Phillip never pushed back, and as can be seen by anyone who watched the video of the podcast, she appeared to be in full agreement with Welch's sentiment.
When one person on the left does something and gets away with it, the ball quickly rolls downhill, and that was the case here as well. NewsNation host Leland Vittert was interviewing Amanda Litman when Litman defended Welch’s characterization of Miller. Vittert stated, "I know you’re not offended by what Mamdami said. We can agree to disagree about that, but calling someone a Nazi Jew, I just don’t understand how that has any place in America’s political discourse.”
Litman initially stated, “If the title fits.” Vittert just about lost it, but Litman did not back down, adding, “I would say Stephen Miller has been one of the worst perpetrators of the kidnapping that ICE is doing across the country, of the way in which he is, if not functioning literally as a Nazi, spiritually as a Nazi. It is a–…”
Vittert wound up cutting Litman off, then, after some quick back and forth on the subject, and after Litman refused to back down from the characterization, Vittert abruptly ended the interview.
Conservative podcaster Katie Miller, a former Trump staffer and Stephen Miller’s wife, finally came face-to-face with Phillip and had an opportunity to call her out during a discussion about Tucker Carlson’s interview of Nick Fuentes. Miller took much the same stance that I took on this, in that I think Fuentes is a despicable person, but he does have freedom of speech, and Carlson has the freedom of the press. If that is who he chose to interview, he is entitled to do that, even if Fuentes’ ideology is clearly disgusting.
Miller defended Carlson’s right to conduct the interview, and Phillip proceeded to call her out, asking her if she was okay with Fuentes. Miller then replied, “Here we go. I’m a Jew. Do you want to go there? And let’s say this— .” Phillip got a bit indignant, cutting her off, “Yeah, I just asked the question. It was ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Are you okay with Nick Fuentes?”
There was some back and forth between the two, then Miller addressed the frequency with which she and her husband have been labeled as Nazi Jews, stating, “You host people on your show all the time who call my husband and myself a Nazi.” Phillip claimed that it is “different,” to which Miller responded, “Excuse me, you have [left-leaning podcast host and former reality TV star] Jennifer Welch on your show very often, and you’ve never pushed back as she has called … my husband a white nationalist.”
She later added, “Let’s go back to this point one more time. Nick Fuentes can espouse an opinion on Tucker Carlson’s show and he didn’t push back, the same way you didn’t push back when someone called someone in my family a Nazi. It’s not different, Abby.”
I think Miller hit the nail on the head. The toughest free speech to support is the free speech with which you do not agree. But remember, just because you have the freedom to speak does not mean you cannot be held accountable for what you say. And I think that is the point that most leftists in this country fail to comprehend.
