George Conway, the former husband of former Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway, now appears to have plans to fight the president from within.
Conway was very vocally opposed to Trump during his first administration, even co-founding The Lincoln Project to push back against his policies.
Notably, Conway recently came out as a backer of ANTIFA, and he is reportedly considering a run for Congress.
Considering how close Kellyanne Conway has long been with the president, I was stunned that her then-husband was a full-throttle anti-Trumper.
It was no surprise to learn of their eventual divorce, especially after George Conway helped co-found The Lincoln Project.
The project was started in 2019 specifically to help beat Trump in the 2020 election. The group's website stated, "We do not undertake this task lightly nor from ideological preference.”
It continued, "Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain. However, the priority for all patriotic Americans must be a shared fidelity to the Constitution and a commitment to defeat those candidates who have abandoned their constitutional oaths, regardless of party."
Not surprisingly, Conway attended one of the No Kings rallies that took place around the country a few weeks ago.
What was surprising, however, was that Conway also came out as a member of ANTIFA.
He was seen around the D.C. area with a t-shirt that stated, “I am ANTIFA.”
Conway never responded to inquiries about the shirt directly, but he mocked people who were tagging him on social media, thanking them for the shoutout.
Reports started to break on Thursday that Conway has plans to run for Congress as a Democrat in New York.
Currently, Conway is serving as the president of the Society for the Rule of Law, a group that claims its mission is to “protect the Constitution and the rule of law against rising threats posed by illiberal forces in our society, without regard to political party or partisan affiliation.”
For those of us who were hoping for normalcy to return to Congress, we can forget about that if Conway gets into office. This man will look to generate headlines non-stop, portraying himself as the savior of the country as well as the world against the bad orange man.
It will be political theater non-stop, so let’s hope his quest fails. If not, the rising temperature in this country will be enough to send the water over the edge of the pot.
