In recent weeks, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has become a real problem for the Democrat Party.
He has blasted leadership in both chambers of Congress, but now he has a new book out showing that his problems with the party go much deeper.
In his new book, Fetterman makes note of a serious falling out he had with the governor of his home state of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro.
If you can believe it, the man the GOP worked so hard to defeat a few years ago has suddenly become the voice of reason within the Democrat Party.
Fetterman has had no problem calling out Democrats for going over the top, especially regarding Donald Trump.
After Rep. Nancy Pelosi called Trump a “vile creature,” among other insults, Fetterman took up for the president. He stated, “I would say that’s part of the worst creatures on the face of the earth are Hamas or like the leadership of Iran or there’s a lot of people on that. I would never use those kind of terms and I wouldn’t describe our president.”
He continued, “You can really disagree with him and I do disagree, but I don’t think that’s really entirely appropriate. But that’s her words for that. So for me, that’s just a different kinds of a Democrat for me.”
Fetterman’s position regarding the recent government shutdown was always locked in, so one would think that Democrat leaders would have reached out to him to see how they could get him on board with their position, or at least to address his concerns.
Fetterman, however, said he never heard from anyone.
When asked who was leading his party right now, he responded that nobody really knows.
He added, “I was not in a conversation or I never got any outreach. I really kind of led the charge [to keep the government open] back in March. And then I said, ‘I know we’ll be back in September.’ And I said, ‘I know where my vote will be then, too.’"
Fetterman apparently made good use of the shutdown by writing a memoir, fittingly called Unfettered.
In the book, he recounts a testy moment he had with Shapiro, someone many believe could be a possible presidential candidate for the Democrat Party.
Fetterman had been caught on a hot mic saying some rather inflammatory things about Shapiro. He then discussed how Shapiro’s team reached out to him to have him retract certain of his statements, to which he responded, "He wanted me to retract things I had said and to deny the rumors about the private meeting taking place. That wasn’t going to happen."
I honestly had no idea about this rift, and I thought these two were okay with each other, but it would appear that Fetterman has been ruffling feathers in the Democrat Party for quite some time. Honestly, I hope he keeps doing it, because I would love to be able to steal that seat back for Republicans when and if he runs for reelection.
