In 2022, Donald Trump filed a suit against, among other individuals, Hillary Clinton and James Comey.
The suit failed, then Trump and Alina Habba, his personal attorney at the time, were hit with a massive fine by the court for having filed a “frivolous” lawsuit.
Trump appealed the fine, but a federal judge just ruled that the fine will remain in place.
The lawsuit claimed, “Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot -- one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy.”
It continued, “Acting in concert, the defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty.”
It further claimed there was a plot against Trump that was “so outrageous, subversive and incendiary that even the events of Watergate pale in comparison.”
CNN analyst Eli Hoenig, a former federal prosecutor, laughed at the suit, stating at the time, “It’s difficult to put into words just how deeply flawed and utterly hopeless this lawsuit is.”
Roughly two weeks ago, the appellate court was extremely skeptical of Trump’s efforts to reinstate the suit against Clinton and company.
In addition to the suit itself, the court was considering the massive fine of nearly $1 million that had been levied against Trump and Habba for having filed the suit in the first place.
During arguments, it did not look good for Trump, as the panel was constantly challenging Trump’s attorneys for their arguments in trying to prove the conspiracy they alleged had taken place.
But Chief Judge William Pryor had stated, "I don’t see where you’ve really attacked that."
On Wednesday afternoon, the court revealed its ruling, and it was not a good one for Trump. In the original ruling, Judge Donald Middlebrooks had written, "Here we are confronted with a lawsuit that should never have been filed, which was completely frivolous, both factually and legally, and which was brought in bad faith for an improper purpose.”
It continued, "Mr. Trump is a prolific and sophisticated litigant who is repeatedly using the courts to seek revenge on political adversaries. He is the mastermind of strategic abuse of the judicial process and he cannot be seen as a litigant blindly following the advice of a lawyer.”
The appellate court agreed, keeping the $938,000 judgment in place, which will be split among the many defendants in the case.
So, Trump has had yet another loss in a case to fight the 2020 election results. He just needs to let this go and stop looking back. But I am not sure that is even in Trump’s DNA.
