During the 2024 election, Donald Trump showed significant headway among minorities, especially among Latino voters, a group in which he almost beat Kamala Harris.
The media and Democrats have been hammering Trump’s immigration agenda, and their efforts are undermining the coalition he built.
New polls have surfaced that show Trump taking a massive hit within this demographic group, with his approval declining to pre-2016 levels.
We knew that Trump had made progress in minority voting demographics, but the progress made in the Latino community was completely unexpected, at least to the level it eventually reached.
Trump never hid his agenda when it comes to deporting all illegal immigrants, and the Latino community appeared to approve of that stance, with Harris only winning 56% of the Latino vote in the 2024 election.
Notably, this was a demographic group in which Trump only won 28% in the 2016 contest.
Among Latino men in the 2024 cycle, Trump won 47% of this voter group, showing a huge shift.
In 2025, the previous shift to the right by Latino voters appears to have moved right back over the left in a big way.
But then again, the places where this happened most notably were mostly blue cities and states with high-profile contests earlier this month.
Even so, there were some real areas of concern. For instance, Mickie Sherrill won Union City by 67 points in her New Jersey gubernatorial election, whereas Harris only won it by 17%. Sherrill won Perth Amboy by 56 points, where Harris only won the city by nine points.
This is exactly why I was ringing the bell when people like Scott Jennings and JD Vance were calling it ridiculous to be worried about Democrats winning elections in blue cities and states. There was far more to the situation than simply coming up a bit short in these races. There was a clear momentum swing in the vote totals.
I sometimes get hammered when I write these reports, but I write them so that people know the truth, and recent polling has proven that this is clearly something to be worried about. Far better to get the truth now and be able to do something about it than to feed you guys adoration posts, and we wind up getting killed in the next election.
To that point, a recent poll among Latino voters now shows Trump underwater by 38 points on immigration, whereas Harris had only held a two-point lead in the 2024 election.
CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten stated, “On the issue of immigration -- Latinos despise, hate Donald Trump.” He continued, “In their mind, he is doing something absolutely wrong when it comes to immigration.”
Trump is clearly losing this demographic. And that by no means he needs to abandon his immigration agenda, but it definitely needs to be presented more effectively. Right now, the optics being pushed by Democrats and the media are horrible, so Republicans have to do a better job on this front. Sadly, today, optics are everything, so, yes, it does matter how federal agents conduct immigration operations. If not, we are not only going to lose the House in 2026, but we will get our clocks cleaned in the 2028 presidential election. The warnings are there for everyone to see, so clearly, brushing off the 2025 cycle as “normal” is not a smart plan on the part of the GOP.
