There was a time when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was Trump’s fiercest defender.
That all changed when she was snubbed for a Cabinet position and then reportedly blocked from a Senate run.
After Trump took aim at Greene in the media, she expressed a desire to make up with the president and end this feud, but he just doubled down on his attacks.
Greene has pushed back on Trump regarding the big, beautiful bill, healthcare subsidies, and now the Epstein files, which appeared to be the breaking point for the president.
He called her a MAGA “traitor” and blasted her on social media, and MAGA stalwarts responded in kind.
Greene is now calling out Trump for allegedly spurring threats she says she has received after being hit with the “traitor” label, much like former Vice President Mike Pence claimed happened after he refused to block the certification of the 2020 election.
The congresswoman stated, "The most hurtful thing he said, which is absolutely untrue, is he called me a traitor, and that is so extremely wrong. Those are the types of words used that can radicalize people against me and put my life in danger."
Greene was just as much part of the toxic nature of politics these days as anyone, but after she was labeled by Trump, she says she is now reversing course.
The Georgia lawmaker stated, "I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world."
She then added, "I would like to say humbly, I‘m sorry for taking part in the toxic politics. It’s very bad for our country, and it’s been something I’ve thought about a lot, especially since Charlie Kirk was assassinated, is that we, I’m only responsible for myself and my own words and actions, and I am committed, and I’ve been working on this a lot lately to put down the knives in politics.”
Aside from her words, one of the more controversial posts Greene made during her “toxic” stage involved a post that included an image of a gun alongside the far-left House "Squad."
After Greene made her latest statement, Trump went right after her again, stating, "Wacky Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown where there is ROT involved!) is working overtime to try and portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems. The fact is, nobody cares about this Traitor to our Country!"
Greene responded to Trump’s attacks, posting, "I am not a traitor. However, when the President of the United States irresponsibly calls a Member of Congress of his own party, traitor, he is signaling what must be done to a traitor.”
She added, “I fought harder than anyone to help President Trump get elected and I support his administration and the promises we made on the campaign.”
I have stated many times that I don’t like the idea of Trump going for the throat of Republicans he deems to have crossed him. These conversations should be happening behind closed doors, not on social media and surely not in the mainstream outlets. We don’t have the numbers to lose voters who think the party is in turmoil. We just have to be better than this, period, if we expect to pull off the impossible and hold the House in 2026.
