Conservatives have been battling for women’s rights in the sports world for years, which is odd considering that the left always accuses the right of trying to take women’s rights away.
Donald Trump even signed an order to protect women’s sports rights after reclaiming the Oval Office.
Now, after years of battling with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the subject of transgender athletes in women's sports, it would appear that we have been handed a major victory.
On Trump’s first day in office, he signed an executive order to ban biological males from women’s sports.
In part, the order stated, “Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women and gain access to intimate single-sex spaces and activities designed for women, from women’s domestic abuse shelters to women’s workplace showers. This is wrong.”
It later added, “Accordingly, my Administration will defend women’s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male.”
I have always supported this, especially in women’s sports, where my concerns center around competitiveness and safety. To me, it is just a matter of time before a biological woman winds up seriously injured, possibly even dead, from competing against a biological male in more physical sports, such as hockey and lacrosse, as well as in combat sports.
I have noted numerous times how California Gov. Gavin Newsom has tried to copy everything that Trump did in 2024 to position himself for the 2028 presidential election.
Seeing how important this subject was during the 2024 election, it was no surprise to see Newsom flip and move more toward the right’s position on this.
During a podcast appearance with the late Charlie Kirk, he stated, "I think it's an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness, it's deeply unfair."
That break with the party did not open the floodgates for Democrats to see the light, but there was a little trickle of defectors on this issue, which was apparently enough for the IOC to take the situation seriously.
To this point, the IOC had previously been leaving it up to individual sporting event commissions to regulate this issue, but IOC President Kirsty Coventry is now taking a far more aggressive approach.
She stated, "We understand that there'll be differences depending on the sport … but it was very clear from the members that we have to protect the female category, first and foremost to ensure fairness.”
Coventry’s statement continued, "But we need to do that with a scientific approach and the inclusion of the international federations who have already done a lot of work in this area."
My guess is that liberals and far-left Democrats are going to lose their minds over this and cry about how unfair it is, but the reality is, this had to be done. Science is science, no matter how much Democrats and liberals try to twist it. Above all else, this is about safety, and this was the right thing to do.
