We are at a really odd time in this country when it seems that anyone associated with Donald Trump is in jeopardy of being attacked somehow, and that includes members of our military.
ICE agents are being attacked, and people are bad-mouthing the National Guard.
Now, we are even seeing incidents at military bases, and I don’t think it is a reach to think that those involved could be lunatics with an axe to grind against the administration.
According to administration officials, attacks are up by more than 1,000% against ICE agents over the same period last year.
For instance, on July 4, a plot was exposed involving more than a dozen people who lured agents to ambush them in Alvarado, Texas.
In Nebraska, an agent was injured during an arrest when the official involved was slammed to the ground.
In Illinois, two agents were assaulted in the process of an apprehension. And these are just a few of the most recent incidents.
I firmly believe these attacks were encouraged by the rhetoric coming from Democrats about federal law enforcement agents.
For instance, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has characterized agents as representatives of a “modern-day Gestapo."
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has called them Trump’s “secret police,” telling his supporters that they have a right to “push back” against their efforts. Newsom also took action to try to block agents from being able to wear masks, leaving them and their families vulnerable to doxxing and worse.
There are plenty more examples from recent months, with some of the more extreme members of the Democrat Party also targeting the National Guard in these conversations. When you build fear, people react, and that is why I think this has now started to impact the military.
Early Friday morning, a report broke that a suspicious package with a mysterious powder had been delivered to Joint Base Andrews, a parcel that also included an anti-Trump message. This is key because the location is where Air Force One is parked.
According to the report, seven people were sent to the hospital out of an abundance of precaution. As the day progressed, it was reported that they had been medically cleared, and no stoppages in services occurred at the base.
A base spokesperson stated, "As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area. Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and normal operations have resumed. An investigation is currently ongoing."
My fear here is that this was a possible test run to see what would happen if such a package were sent and whether getting the parcel delivered was even a possibility. You learn weaknesses by seeing how people react to something, so I am concerned that this was something of a reconnaissance mission. The enemy within… it has become a reality in this country.
