Today’s “thought” featured a quote from Thomas Sowell, as well as asking our readers for their ideas on how we can fix members of Congress passing laws that do not impact them. Our comment today comes from Arthur K. from Kentucky, who responded:

“Sowell hits the nail on the head. The reason they play these games with our livelihoods is because they have absolutely no skin in the game. In the real world, if you don't do your job, you don't get paid. But in D.C., they can shut down the government and still collect their six-figure salaries while our military and border patrol agents work without pay."

“The fix is simple, but they will never vote for it: pass a ‘No Budget, No Pay’ law. If the government shuts down, their paychecks stop immediately—permanently, with no back pay. Make them live under the same uncertainty they force on the rest of us, and watch how fast they find a solution.”

I agree with that solution, Arthur, but there are a lot more problems than just the government shutting down in Congress that we need to address.
