Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has been quite the chatterbox as she enters her last year in Congress.
Pelosi once again discussed her thoughts on impeaching Donald Trump, but she had a lot more than that to say.
The former speaker made her predictions for the 2026 election cycle and offered some harsh words about Trump and Jan. 6.
Trump has long taken most of the heat for Jan. 6, but there is more than enough blame to go around for that one.
For instance, why did Pelosi not order more security, especially considering the chatter and concerns before the big rally on the day in question? There are plenty of people who believe she wanted a riot to take place, but that she just never thought it would get as out of control as it did.
Pelosi continues to try to put all the blame on Trump, having stated, “Well, it was clear that the president of the United States had incited an insurrection. And we begged him to send the National Guard. Typical of him, he never represents the truth. He said, ‘Well, I was going to send them.’ Get out of here. Even Mitch McConnell was on the phone with us, saying, ‘Get them here right away.’ But they never sent them.”
Trump was on record as having told officials to put the National Guard in place before the event, but that recommendation was disregarded, and, well, we all know what happened after that.
While numerous Democrats have accused Trump of already committing impeachable offenses during his second term, Pelosi says there is no reason to impeach Trump at this time.
She stated, “I’ve said to people, the one person who was responsible for the impeachments of Donald Trump is Donald Trump.”
Pelosi continued, “It’s not something you decide to do. It’s what violation of the Constitution he engages in. So that’s not somethin’ you say, ‘Oh, we’re gonna impeach him.'”
I am curious what Reps. Al Green (D-TX) and Shri Thanedar (D-MI) would have to say about that, as both have already tried to have Trump impeached during this term.
When Pelosi was asked about the possibility of Democrats taking the House back, she quickly interjected, “No, no, when the Democrats win the House back. We will.”
She was then asked to give advice for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who would be the likely Speaker, and she responded, “Do your own thing. Be yourself. Hakeem Jeffries is ready, he’s eloquent, he’s respected by the members, he is a unifier, he will have —.” Pelosi was interrupted, asked if she had any doubts he would be elected, to which she responded, “None.”
This is really interesting because numerous Democrats have stated they would impeach Trump if the Dems take back the House in 2026, but Pelosi is not leaning in that direction (but she would be gone by that time). And the only reason Jeffries has not supported an impeachment is that he knows it will never make it through since the GOP controls both chambers.
As I have noted in prior reports, history says the Democrats will win the House back rather easily in November, but nothing is guaranteed in this political environment. If the Dems do win, it will be very interesting to see if they move forward, as it appears Pelosi is suggesting, or if they go back to 2019 and focus solely on removing Trump for his final two years in office.
