After seeing the videos posted of the brave souls intervening during the terror attack at Bondi Beach, my “thought” today was about the people who dare to act rather than those who stand by and record video to get extra likes and clicks for their social media accounts. I also referenced a John Wayne quote about courage.

“John Wayne defined American grit. The behavior you are describing -- people filming crimes instead of stopping them—isn't just cowardice; it is a sickness. We have raised a culture that values 'clout' and viral views over human life. Standing by and recording a tragedy so you can post it online is the height of moral bankruptcy."

I agree, Douglas, and I would only hope that if ever in that situation, I would take action to help rather than whip out my phone to record the tragedy.
