This is about as dishonest and manipulative as you can be as a public official. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) makes it sound like Hegseth is dining out on surf and turf every day. Do you know who is really getting those meals? Military members.
Literally, for decades, there have been “surf and turf” theme nights for deployed troops to keep morale high. My niece’s husband, who just retired as an officer from the United States Navy, talked about these dinners all the time and how much his sailors looked forward to the meal. How some would trade off crab legs for steaks, and vice versa.
Now I am not saying we shouldn’t look at line items, especially at the Pentagon, but just be truthful about them. If Hegseth put a piano in his house, crush him for it. But if he bought a piano for a VA so wounded veterans can play or have live music, well, you see where I am going with this…
