First, the women’s hockey team did NOT decline the offer for political reasons. The team’s official statement was:
“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal–winning U.S. Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement.
“Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate.”
Second, if the women did not want to go, that is fine, but don’t vilify the men for embracing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And third, it is actually sickening that a so-called journalist invented a narrative that will likely create backlash for both teams, simply so he could get likes and clicks on his social media. This is purposeful and blatant misinformation…
Today’s “thought” was inspired by a Mencken quote discussing how politicians purposely try to divide citizens. Wyatt R. from Alaska had a little something to say about that, responding:
“Mencken had their playbook figured out a century ago. Every time you turn on the news, the sky is falling. Whether it is a new health scare, an environmental emergency, or whatever panic the establishment is pushing this week, their solution is always exactly the same: surrender your money and your liberties, and Washington will keep you safe.
“They manufacture the chaos just so they can play the savior. It is a racket, plain and simple. We have to stop falling for the engineered panic and start holding the line. The only real crisis we face is a political class that despises its own citizens.”
