Actor Robert De Niro has played tough guys his entire life, but when it comes to Trump, he just loses it.
One of De Niro’s more infamous rants was during the Tony Awards, which reignited his feud with Donald Trump.
During his most recent meltdown, we are now trying to figure out whether De Niro was putting his acting skills to use or if he is really so upset over Trump that he started to cry.
De Niro has never been a fan of Trump as a politician, having even made a video during the 2016 cycle where he referred to Trump as “an idiot, a national disaster, an embarrassment to this country … this fool, this bozo.”
That continued after Trump took office, then during the 2018 Tony Awards, De Niro, while introducing Bruce Springsteen, proclaimed, “I’m gonna say one thing. F**k Trump.” That, of course, got a standing ovation, then he continued, “It’s no longer down with Trump. It’s f**k Trump.”
De Niro did eventually introduce Springsteen, but he was clearly relishing in the moment of his anti-Trump moment.
While Trump had ignored many of De Niro’s rants in the past, he did not ignore this one.
Trump hit De Niro with the standard, “a very Low IQ individual” dig, then he continued, "I watched him... and truly believe he may be 'punch-drunk.’”
De Niro was also one of the many Hollywood stars who said they would likely move out of the United States if Trump won, but never did.
The back-and-forth between Trump and De Niro has continued over the years, but it is usually more De Niro than Trump, as the president seems to brush off whatever the actor says fairly regularly.
This time, however, I would expect Trump to gloat a little more after De Niro had a full-blown meltdown.
MS NOW host Nicolle Wallace also has a podcast called "The Best People," where she recently invited De Niro for an interview, and he expressed his fears for New York and the country in general with Trump as president.
He stated, "People have to resist, resist, resist, resist, resist. That's the only way. There's no magic. There's no nothing – people are not going to go away, even if Trump dies for some reason by having an illness or something.”
He continued, "Parts of that movement are still there, and that's the scary part. It has to be neutralized by the people." During the interview, De Niro had worked himself up and was on the verge of tears, but he really seemed to be at his breaking point during his “resist” moment.
I really used to like De Niro, but he has just gone over the edge, and I find it hard to even watch a movie of his any longer because of his political views. I have not boycotted the man, as I think that is silly, but I just no longer have interest in his work because he is so over the top about Trump.
