Thought of the Day
Today, I want to take a look at one of the most famous quotes from any president in the history of this country, that being John F. Kennedy's statement:
"Ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what you can do for your country."
To me, this means that for every right we have, we also have a responsibility that comes with it. In terms of free speech, yes, we have the right to speak our minds, but that right also comes with the duty to tell the truth. If you do not respect that duty, then you should be held accountable.
In essence, the Bill of Rights only offers one side of the coin, while the other side of it clearly implicates our duty to respect those rights and not abuse them. If we do, we put our constitutional republic at risk.
