Democrats have been in damage control mode amid reports of widespread fraud in Minnesota and California.
Governors in those states have found themselves under attack from Republicans and even from some members of their party as well.
Now, also some mainstream media outlets are turning on blue state leaders, and that is when the real heat starts to be applied.
Attacks from Republicans are to be expected because we know the Dems would be doing the same thing if fraud like this had been uncovered in a red state (and for the record, it would not surprise me one bit if it were happening).
Rep. Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) was quick to go for his 15 minutes of fame, stating, "This is what the mafia does. They steal, they lie, they cheat. The federal government has to use the full powers that we used to destroy the mafia back in the 1960s. Nothing short of it.”
Gov.Tim Walz of Minnesota continues to try to fend off these attacks, claiming he has been working to combat fraud in his state for years.
He responded, "We’ve spent years cracking down on fraudsters. It’s a serious issue — but this has been his plan all along. He’s politicizing the issue to defund programs that help Minnesotans.”
I have long believed that Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) is one of the bigger political threats coming out of the Democrat Party, and he now seems to be making a move to position himself for a 2028 run at the presidency.
He is openly attacking California's leadership over recent fraud reports from his home state, even calling out Gov. Gavin Newsom for challenging a recent inspector general’s report.
Khanna stated, “Today, I am announcing that in 2026 I will be working on a bipartisan basis on Oversight to request hearings on state governments’ high-risk programs, including California, that have led to illegal payments and eligibility errors.”
He further stated that he would be calling for a full audit of California’s budget.
Several media outlets have come out to try to debunk the viral video released by journalist Nick Shirley that has been making headlines, but the Washington Post is going a different route, instead calling for stricter entitlement benefit qualifications.
Its editorial board wrote, "As America’s welfare state has ballooned to more than 80 major federal programs, they’ve become a target-rich environment for alleged scam artists like those in Minneapolis. Walz’s boondoggle underlines the need for serious reforms across America.”
It continued, "Too bad that too many progressive leaders are lackadaisical at best about cracking down on fraud and errors, lest it curtail social services."
That is about as scathing an op-ed as I have read from the mainstream media in years, and it is a great sign in terms of the press finally waking up to the fact that not all things Democrat are good. Fair and balanced… that is all we have ever asked for or expected from the mainstream media. I don’t want to get too excited, but perhaps we are finally turning a corner here.
