The “woke” movement in the Democratic Party is dying a slow death.
It cost them elections in 2024, and if they keep it up, it could cost them what historically should be a blowout in terms of midterm victories, given that the GOP retook the White House in the last cycle.
I am sure that is why former Barack Obama adviser Van Jones is now encouraging his party to move on from the woke movement.
Democrats dug in on transgender rights, but they were constantly misrepresenting the true issue among conservatives on this front.
Most of us couldn't care less if you want to declare yourself a giraffe, stretch out your neck, and eat off trees for the rest of your life. This was never about people claiming to be the opposite gender of their birth.
This was about protecting the integrity of women’s sports, children, and safety issues in athletic competitions.
Lanae Erickson, a senior vice president of the center-left think tank Third Way, explained why the attacks by Republicans against Democrats worked so well in the last cycle, stating, “What they thought, in November, was that Democrats thought there should be no rules. That’s a caricature of the position from the right. And if you are too scared to articulate what your position is, that’s what they hear.”
This was a major issue in the last election cycle, and Republicans pounded it.
Just as Erickson noted, the Democrats' position appeared to be an all-or-nothing play for transgender rights in all scenarios, while Republicans stayed focused on protecting children and women’s sports.
Greg Schultz, the national campaign manager of then-candidate Joe Biden’s 2020 primary run, hit the nail on the head, stating, “We try so hard to represent everybody, we alienate everybody.”
To his point, during the final weeks of the election, a whopping 67% of Americans believed that Democrats were obsessed with “identity politics.” Democrats were terrified to point out any possible issues, much the same way they have approached abortion over the last few years.
Jones, a former adviser to Obama, has very quietly been turning more toward the middle on these issues. He has made some rather shocking comments lately, calling out Democrats for their overzealous attacks and positions.
He now believes the activists in his party have taken everything too far, stating, "This is not going to make me popular, but I'm not mad [about the change], because it got ridiculous. I mean, I‘m an employer and at a certain point, your Slack channel just turns into Vietnam every other day because something happened that had nothing to do with the workplace."
He later added, "So, I enjoyed the moment, for a while, where we were having our reckonings about everything. We done wrecked, OK? We went from reckoning to wrecked. We need to move on."
The problem with the modern-day Democrat is that there is no room for bargaining, and they are pushing the GOP into a corner to defend reasonable positions, and the American people are seeing through their act. Honestly, the only reason these races are even tight right now is because of the pure hatred against Donald Trump harbored by half the people of this country. Soon, however, Democrats will not have Trump to pick on, but we all know that his heir apparent will be attacked in the same way, so I hope Americans realize this is nothing but political theater by Dems, and they vote accordingly.
