Trump suggests federalizing DC to reduce violent crime, beautify city

A recent, violent attack against a former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee has President Donald Trump all riled up.

Trump is now threatening to bring in federal troops and extra law enforcement officers to clean up the nation's capital.

Not only that, but he is also vowing to initiative a city beautification program in order to soften the blow.

He’s down

The pictures of former DOGE staffer Edward Coristine blew up on social media last week.

If my understanding of the situation is correct, Coristine observed a young lady in distress on the streets of D.C., surrounded by a bunch of teenage thugs, when he jumped in to protect her.

While the young lady was reportedly unharmed, Coristine took a serious drubbing for his duties as the white knight.

He reportedly sustained a concussion during the beating, and his face and body were bloodied in the pictures published after the fact. Quite frankly, he was lucky a patrol car happened by when it did, or he may not have made it out of that neighborhood alive.

Make it great again

As those reports began to circulate around the internet, Trump vowed to take care of the city and make it great again.

He posted to Truth Social, "I will take care of our cherished Capital, and we will make it, truly, GREAT AGAIN! Before the tents, squalor, filth, and crime, it was the most beautiful Capital in the world. It will soon be that again.”

Trump also threw a bone to D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, continuing, "The Mayor of D.C., Muriel Bowser, is a good person who has tried, but she has been given many chances, and the Crime Numbers get worse, and the City only gets dirtier and less attractive. The American Public is not going to put up with it any longer.”

Trump then announced a press conference set for Monday to address the issues.

Liberation Day

Trump just wrapped up his press conference, announcing that he will federalize the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), stating, “This is liberation day in D.C. and we’re going to take our capital back.”

Trump further explained that he was making the National Guard available, although he hoped he would not have to use its services, stating, “We will bring in the military if it’s needed. I don’t think we’ll need it.”

Legally, Trump can only maintain control for 48 hours before he needs to provide notification to the respective chairs of the ranking members of the relevant congressional committees, though Trump can federalize the police department for 30 days.

Trump also announced a plan to remove homeless encampments, which will likely draw the ire of the left, but I am sure the president couldn't care less about that. Honestly, I was recently in D.C., and it is hard to travel a block without hearing a siren or being approached for money by a homeless person. I experienced the same thing recently during a trip to Philadelphia. If Dems won’t clean it up, someone has to, although I know Trump will take a hit as an authoritarian for doing it this way, but what choice does he have?
