When Donald Trump announced that he was replacing the East Wing of the White House with the new ballroom, the meltdown was predictable.
We also expected lawsuits, only they waited until after construction started.
Now, Trump says, “Sorry, too late,” as there is no going back now.
Trump announced the ballroom in July, but I am not sure everyone took him seriously when he did it.
In part, the press release stated, “The White House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the world, yet the White House is currently unable to host major functions honoring world leaders and other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building entrance.
“The White House State Ballroom will be a much-needed and exquisite addition of approximately 90,000 total square feet of ornately designed and carefully crafted space, with a seated capacity of 650 people — a significant increase from the 200-person seated capacity in the East Room of the White House.”
If there were going to be lawsuits, this was the time to file them, but all we heard was whining by the left.
Construction started in September, and the wrecking ball had Democrats melting down.
I loved the idea of adding a ballroom, but Democrats acted like this was the first time a president had done a remodel on the White House.
In December, the National Trust for Historic Preservation filed a lawsuit to block the construction.
It claimed, "No president is legally allowed to tear down portions of the White House without any review whatsoever — not President Trump, not President Joe Biden, and not anyone else.”
Trump was ordered not to do anything that could not be undone while the suit was pending, but I think it is safe to say that it is a bit late for that.
The entire East Wing was demolished, and for security reasons alone, one would think they would want that sealed up as soon as possible. Trump says it is too late to do anything about it anyway.
He stated, "Why didn’t these obstructionists and troublemakers bring their baseless lawsuit much earlier?"
I happen to agree with Trump on this one, but as I stated in another report on a completely different subject, I think this is more about Trump throwing anything he can into the fan to distract from what is happening in Minnesota. I don’t think he will be successful in doing that, but I think that is his mindset by tossing this statement out there.
