Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has been a true thorn in Donald Trump’s side since the start of his second administration.
I actually agreed with some of Massie’s initial moves, but now he just appears to be opposing Trump for its own sake, which is utterly ridiculous.
After Massie spoke out against the Nicolás Maduro arrest, Trump decided to remind MAGA that there is another player in Kentucky who needs to take over the seat the congressman occupies.
I fully support any member of Congress who puts their constituents first, and based on the voting records in Kentucky, at one point in time, that is what Massie was doing.
Massie's recent acts of resistance, however, have led to Trump calling for someone to primary the lawmaker, as the president seems to prefer someone willing to rubber-stamp every policy he proposed.
That has led to Trump backing former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein, who has mounted a primary challenge against Massie, stating, "I’ve dedicated my life to serving my country, and I’m ready to answer the call again.”
Trump immediately backed Gallrein for the seat, hoping to have Massie removed during the 2026 cycle.
Massie blasted Trump for the Maduro arrest, posting, “Wake up MAGA. VENEZUELA is not about drugs; it’s about OIL and REGIME CHANGE. This is not what we voted for.”
Of course, this is about regime change, as Maduro was not beneficial to the United States, and he was getting far too cozy with China, Russia, and Iran.
Simply put, we cannot allow those countries to get a foothold that close to the United States.
Let’s not pretend that most U.S. decisions regarding foreign policy are not about oil, minerals, or resources in general. That is the basis of most of such moves.
The latest defiance was about all that Trump could handle from Massie, however, and he unloaded on him on Truth Social while at the same time trying to get MAGA energized for the primary battle ahead.
Trump wrote, “The incredible people of Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, who want desperately to get rid of Thomas Massie, the Worst ‘Republican’ Congressman we have had in many years, gave us a mandate to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! The person that will help us do the job, and do it right, is Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, Fifth Generation Kentucky Farmer, and American Hero, Captain Ed Gallrein, a true Patriot.”
The president continued, “Today, Ed, who also happens to be central casting, officially filed to run for Congress. I have heard that there are other Candidates exploring a run for this seat, but I am asking all MAGA Warriors to rally behind Captain Ed Gallrein, the Candidate who is, far and away, best positioned to DEFEAT Third Rate Congressman Thomas Massie, a Weak and Pathetic RINO from the beautiful Commonwealth of Kentucky, a place I love, and won BIG, ALL THREE TIMES.”
This is likely to be the biggest test of Trump’s endorsement power to date, as Massie is extremely well-liked in his district, and he has never been close to defeat in any of his races. Win or lose, this primary contest will give us a great feel for how things will go for Trump in the 2026 election cycle and beyond.
