As we all know, late-night TV is not kind to Donald Trump, and he is always looking for ways to make a dig.
Stephen Colbert’s Late Show has already been canceled by CBS, but he will remain on the air until May 2026.
Trump, however, would like to see Colbert removed immediately and recently made his wishes quite clear.
Late-night TV is not the sensation it once was.
For instance, when Johnny Carson was on the air, his was a show on which people relied for a humorous take on the news and some general entertainment.
Today, the genre has turned into one full of narcissists lecturing us on politics, and ratings for many shows have crashed.
As such, CBS recently decided that the cost to produce the Late Show far outweighed the benefits, and Colbert was informed that his program will be taken off the air come May 2026.
Let’s fast forward to earlier this month, when 60 Minutes was set to air a report on the deportation of illegal immigrants to El Salvador.
The segment was canceled by new CBS editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, who did not believe the report was fair and balanced.
She had asked the journalist to include quotes from administration officials, which the version that was supposed to air did not contain.
The segment would air in Canada and was later put online, without the requested changes. It was just one more reason for Trump to go after CBS.
That brings us back to Colbert, who has become even more obsessed with Trump since receiving the news that his show was canceled. It now seems like every night is a Trump-bashing fest, and the president has heard enough.
Trump must have watched the show, as he made a late-night post, stating, “Stephen Colbert is a pathetic trainwreck, with no talent or anything else necessary for show business success.”
His rant continued, “Now, after being terminated by CBS, but left out to dry, he has actually gotten worse, along with his nonexistent ratings. Stephen is running on hatred and fumes ~ A dead man walking! CBS should, ‘put him to sleep,’ NOW, it is the humanitarian thing to do!”
I doubt that will happen, as Democrats would lose their minds if CBS decided to pull the show early in the wake of a request like that from Trump. I suspect viewers will continue to be subject to Colbert’s incessant whining about the president for another five months until the cancellation takes effect.
