As is typical, some of President Donald Trump’s best approval ratings came right after he won the 2024 election.
Since then, Trump has slid backward, just not as badly as Democrats and the media were hoping.
Many thought the Epstein files controversy would crush Trump with his base, but the president just defiantly touted recent polling suggesting otherwise.
Heading into the election, the Epstein files were a big deal to MAGA, and Trump vowed to release the files to the American people.
Not only that, people like current FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, were citing their sources about bombshell allegations regarding people who were involved with Epstein.
So, when Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel said there was no client list to be released, MAGA went ballistic, putting the president on the defense.
Trump has since used every excuse in the book to validate the conclusion, but MAGA was not buying it.
Late last week, Trump flipped on the narrative, saying that he would have Bondi seek the release of all grand jury testimony related to the Epstein case, but he did so in this typical passive-aggressive fashion.
Trump stated, "Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval."
He continued, "This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!"
Again, this is a situation of their own making, as Trump himself talked about how important it was to have transparency in this case. Now, with the sudden reversal, Trump and the GOP also had to deal with Democrats pushing the narrative that the president was not releasing the files because he was implicated in them.
Most people, this writer included, believed that Trump would take a hit with MAGA over this, but that has proven not to be the case.
Trump broke the news on Truth Social, posting, “My Poll Numbers within the Republican Party, and MAGA, have gone up, significantly, since the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax was exposed by the Radical Left Democrats and, just plain ‘troublemakers.’"
He went on, “They have hit 90%, 92%, 93%, and 95%, in various polls, and are all Republican Party records. The General Election numbers are my highest, EVER! People like Strong Borders, and all of the many other things I have done. GOD BLESS AMERICA. MAGA!”
Trump has taken a little hit on immigration of late, but overall, his numbers remain solid. I doubt Trump will ever be above water nationally, but most Republicans continue to stand behind him, and he continues to remain popular, relatively speaking, with most minority groups. That is big news heading into the midterm elections, where the party in power party typically gets crushed.
