Trump backs Wyoming Secretary Chuck Gray for the state’s lone House seat

President Trump fully endorsed Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray for the at-large House seat, calling him tremendous as Gray vowed to defend the Wyoming way of life.

President Donald Trump put his full weight behind Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray on Monday, backing the Republican for the state’s only seat in the U.S. House of Representatives after Gray had already won the GOP primary in August.

Fox News reported that Trump used a Truth Social post to praise Gray’s work in statewide office and to clear the path for him as the next representative from a state Trump said he won big in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

Gray, already the Republican nominee for the open at-large race, answered the same day on X and tied his House bid to the same priorities he has pushed as secretary of state.

Trump calls Gray a “tremendous” secretary of state

Trump did not hedge. He framed the endorsement as total and personal, linking Gray’s current job to the seat now opening in Washington.

Trump posted:

"Chuck Gray has been a tremendous Secretary of State for the Great State of Wyoming, a place I love and WON BIG in 2016, 2020, and 2024!"

He followed with the line that matters for voters still watching the field:

"Chuck Gray has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next U.S. Representative from Wyoming, HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"

That language lands in a small-state race where one House seat is the entire congressional prize. Wyoming sends a single representative to the House. The person who holds it carries statewide weight few other members ever see.

Gray thanks Trump and points to his record

Gray did not wait. He posted his reply on X on Monday and kept the focus on continuity rather than novelty.

Gray wrote:

"Thank you President Trump for your endorsement!"

He added:

"As President Trump said, I have a real track record of advancing the key priorities of the people of Wyoming, and I will continue that track record in Congress. Together, we will defend our Wyoming way of life!"

The message is plain: the same fights he has run at the state level travel with him to the House. No pivot. No reinvention. Continuity is the pitch.

Why the seat is open now

The opening is not abstract. Current GOP Rep. Harriet Hageman holds Wyoming’s lone House seat and is running for the U.S. Senate. Sen. Cynthia Lummis, also a Wyoming Republican, is not seeking a second six-year term. That shuffle clears the House ballot for a new nominee and turns the at-large race into the main congressional contest in the state.

Gray already cleared the Republican primary in August. Trump’s Monday endorsement now puts the party’s most powerful outside voice behind the nominee heading into the general election fight for that single seat.

Gray’s earlier run against Liz Cheney still shapes the map

Gray is not new to this battlefield. In 2021 he was a state representative and radio personality publicly discussing a run against then-incumbent Liz Cheney for the same House seat. Years earlier, during the crowded 2022 primary fight to oust Cheney, the Washington Examiner reported that more than a half-dozen Republicans had jumped in and that insiders expected the field to winnow once Trump chose a favorite, pressure that could have pushed Gray himself out if the endorsement had gone elsewhere.

This time the sequence ran the other way. Gray won the primary first. Trump’s endorsement followed. The consolidation that once loomed as a threat is now a finished fact in Gray’s favor.

Wyoming voters already know the names. They know Trump’s record in the state. They know Gray has held statewide office. Monday’s posts simply locked those pieces together for the only House race that exists on the map.

When a president who carried Wyoming three times puts his complete endorsement on a secretary of state with a primary win already in hand, the choice for Republican voters stops being complicated.
