I will never understand why someone who appears to have it all takes their own life, but that is what just happened again.
James Ransone, known for his role in The Wire, has been found dead, with his demise subsequently ruled a suicide.
Sadly, the bad news does not stop with the fact of his death.
Ransone popped onto the acting scene in 2001 in a movie called The American Astronaut.
It did not take long for Hollywood to realize that Ransome was a promising star in the making, and he was soon tapped to play the role of Ziggy on The Wire.
I thought he made that season of the show, especially when he turned a duck his character's drinking buddy.
Ransone had been very busy ever since, appearing in It: Chapter Two, the TV show SEAL Team, and more recently, in Black Phone and Black Phone 2.
On Friday, Ransone was found dead, and it was later announced that he had committed suicide.
His wife, Jamie McPhee, was silent on his death until Sunday night, when she posted to social media, stating, “I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again.”
She added, “You told me -- I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me -- and you were so right.”
Ransone leaves his widow with a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl to take care of on her own. It is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario.
This weekend, sadly, it was also announced that Donovan Joshua Leigh Metayer, one of the survivors of the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting, also took his life. After the tragedy, he fought an ongoing battle with schizophrenia that finally came to a head.
In a GoFundMe announcement, his family stated, “The loss of our family’s youngest child is a sorrow beyond words — one that will echo through our lives, forever.”
The announcement continued, “Yet even in our grief, we are choosing to speak Donovan’s truth, so that other families do not have to suffer in silence the way we have.”
The death of Metayer marks the third suicide among the survivors of that particular mass shooting. The other two suicides took place not long after the event, as students were struggling to process the horrific violence that took place that day.
