The conservative movement in this country has never been so fired up as it is now.
However, it was just dealt a rather crushing blow because of one man.
An arrest was just announced of a Texas man who allegedly made threats against NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
It now seems pretty apparent that Mamdani is going to win the mayoral election in New York City.
There are four major candidates in contention, and Mandani is the one who is picking up most of the votes from the left.
Even if former Gov Andrew Cuomo faces off against him in a head-to-head race, his polling numbers have him down by 10 points.
The Charlie Kirk assassination, however, could energize some people to work harder to keep Mamdani out of office, especially considering his past comments about the conservative leader.
When Mandani went after Kirk, he was a still nobody, so his comments were pretty much ignored.
In 2023, Mamdani and some of his colleagues tried to have Kirk banned from appearing in New York, stating, "As elected officials representing western Queens, we are deeply disappointed by the decision by Motif Studios to host an event by the far-right extremist groups Blexit and Turning Point USA at their Triplex LIC/Tammany House venue in Long Island City.”
The statement continued, "Providing a platform for the kind of transphobic, bigoted views held by invited speakers Candace Owens, Charlie Kirk and others goes directly against the diversity and inclusivity that we hold dear as New Yorkers and is an insult to every member of our community."
That statement just recently resurfaced, and it was starting to get juice, but now a bigger story has taken over the cycle.
Jeremy Fistel, 44, has been arrested by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force for making terrorist threats against Mamdani. He allegedly left several messages for Mamdani, one of which stated, “You’re a terrorist piece of s–t, and you’re not welcome in New York or in America, neither is your f–king family so they should get the f–k out.”
He also allegedly stated, “Go start your car and see what happens. I’d keep an eye on your house and family. Watch your f–king back every f–king second until you get the f–k out of America. Nobody wants your terrorist ways here. And check your beeper, too, you terrorist f–k.”
I am as frustrated as the next person over the idea of Mamdani taking over a major American city, but I would never advocate for this nonsense. I can tell you how this plays out right now. The media will bury the Kirk story, then talk about how Trump’s attacks against Mamdani inspired this man to threaten the candidate's life, and those on the right will be the bad guys again. Forget the fact that Kirk was just murdered in front of his children, and Mandani just got a couple of phone calls (I am now downplaying the threat, as I think it is horrific, but just putting the two into perspective), the latter will be the bigger story in the media.
Mr. Fistel, all you did today was weaken a movement that was on fire. You are selfish, and whatever justice comes your way, know that you deserve it. You just handed New York City over to a socialist, and you somehow managed to make the conservative movement look more awful than the movement backed by the man who climbed up on a roof and took Charlie Kirk’s life.
