Texas Democrat drops video call after being told she was committing felony

Texas Democrat state Rep. Nicole Collier appears to be the new Jasmine Crockett, the controversial congresswoman more interested in grabbing headlines than in legislating.

Collier presented herself as a prisoner in the state House after a rule was put in place for a police escort to take members home to ensure they were not fleeing the state again.

Now, she is making headlines concerning a phone call she had with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, claiming she was told she was committing a felony for talking to him while standing in the state Capitol bathroom.

Returning to Texas

Democrats leaving Texas to prevent a legislative quorum was nothing more than a political stunt, and we all know it.

They fled the state and headed to three states run by fellow Democrats that have some of the worst gerrymandered maps in the country: California, New York, and Illinois.

Newsom has already promised to gerrymander his maps if Texas passed its new maps, which just happened this week.

Democrats claimed they won this battle, putting the Democratic Party in a much stronger position to hold Texas accountable for changing the maps mid-decade.

Locked in

Rather than take the police escort home, Collier chose to stay in the House and spend the night sleeping on the floor.

She stated, "I have a right to resist, I have a right to oppose, just like my voters do, just like Texans have a right to challenge government, and that's what I'm doing. I'm challenging these decisions that are being made. I don't agree with them.”

Collier added, "All the Democrats will be working together to get that legal record set so that we can take this fight to the court.”

The lawmaker initially claimed that she was more or less a prisoner in the House, but she later admitted that she went to her office at the state Capitol building.

Felony

While the maps were being put on the floor for a vote, Collier reportedly left the chamber and went to the bathroom, where she then took a call from Newsom.

Collier said her call was interrupted when she was informed she was committing a felony, telling Newsom, "Sorry, I have to leave. They said it's a felony for me to do this."

This was immediately turned into a racial issue (Collier is Black) by U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who responded, "What they’re trying to do right there is silence an American leader, silence a Black woman, and that is outrageous. What we just witnessed, them trying to shut her down and saying it's illegal for her to be in the bathroom and on this call, this is the lengths that they’re going to in Texas."

That is also how Democrats are framing the new maps while completely ignoring gerrymandered maps against conservatives in states like California, New York, and Illinois. You see, it is okay when you silence conservative voters, but when the shoe is on the other foot, it is immediately made about race. Like I have said dozens of times, this is what Democrats do to create chaos and divide, as that is the only way they know how to gain and hold power in this country.
