Part of California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s schtick is that he will be the man to stand up to the bad orange man and stop him from coming into the state to scoop up illegal immigrants.
Well, Newsom was just dealt a massive blow after the feds made a massive pre-dawn raid in Los Angeles to locate anti-ICE protesters.
It will be interesting to see how Newsom reacts to the operation, as he has been out stumping of late, using Trump’s 2024 election strategy to make his move to become the Democrats' nominee in the 2028 presidential race.
During the current immigration crackdown, we have seen anti-ICE protests all across the country, with some of them turning violent and even putting agents’ lives at risk.
At times, federal authorities have avoided making arrests in real time in order to de-escalate the situation, coming back at a later date to arrest those who participated in the violence, which is what appears to have happened here.
In the aforementioned pre-dawn raid, a total of nine suspects were rounded up, including one individual who allegedly damaged a federal vehicle during their “protest.”
Bill Essayli, the U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, commented, "I want to be very clear. Every American has a right to peacefully protest. What is not constitutionally protected is a right to engage in violence, or to impede federal agents by assaulting or doxing or obstructing their operations."
Newsom has been all over the media lately, and while he is telling his story, he continues to make himself out to be someone who overcame an impoverished upbringing and started with nothing.
That is a bit of a stretch, however, when you consider Newsom's family ties to the Getty family, who, by the way, backed his first business venture, a boutique winery.
Newsom was just featured in a New York Post report about a new trend among politicians that it referred to as “poorigin,” or the use of fabricated story to twist one's origins to create the impression of poor background to gain relatability with voters.
In reality, Newsom’s family was prominent in the Bay Area, and his father was an attorney who helped negotiate the release of John Paul Getty III, having been tasked with delivering ransom money amid his infamous kidnapping.
In a report yesterday, I noted how Newsom appears to be copying Donald Trump’s playbook from 2024 to run his own campaign for 2028, complete right down to copying the president's social media style and begging to be on Joe Rogan's show, given the success Trump had with his prior appearance. In our evening newsletter, I will actually have a video of how Newsom is now using other influencers to help him after saying that he has “moved on.”
Newsom is now offering up a take on Trump Derangement Syndrome, or TDS, accusing Trump and conservatives of having “California Derangement Syndrome,” or CDS.
I guess that is what he calls people who expose his record and lies, such as Will Swaim, president of the California Policy Center, who wrote, “I still get buzzed when I recall that a majority of Californians looked at what Gavin Newsom allowed while mayor of San Francisco -- rampant homelessness, transportation gridlock, failed public projects, a widening income gap, sidewalk needles, and human, er, waste -- and decided they wanted that for the whole state. They elected him governor in 2018 and now complain that California is going to hell.”
Sadly, American presidential elections now seem more like a beauty contest or popularity contest, as qualifications seem to be the last thing voters look at when they are deciding the top of the ticket. Newsom’s failures are well documented, but now he is cast as a hero for fighting back against the bad orange man, so it looks more and more likely that he will be the guy in 2028 to face off against the GOP candidate, who is likely to be JD Vance. I have to say, I am very much looking forward to those debates.
