When a host of anti-Israel protests started on college campuses, the Trump administration was adamant that it would start to look at student visas, with revocation a distinct possibility.
The administration doubled down later that the review would also include visas granted to those not necessarily involved in anti-Semitic conduct, such as Chinese student visas deemed not in the best interest of this country.
The Trump administration just delivered on its promise, and Democrats are going to lose their minds.
The demonstrations that started it all date back to the Biden administration, as anti-Israel protests were engulfing some of the most prestigious schools in the country.
Columbia University seemed to be taking the worst of it, however, as parts of the campus had been taken over by protesters, with intimidation of Jewish students escalating at the school.
During a September 2024 protest, flyers were distributed that read, “We ask that you put aside your excitement for a new school year and remember the Palestinians who died by our very dollars.”
Columbia University spokesperson Samantha Slater would not even address the protests, stating, "As we begin the new semester, we are focused on our mission of teaching, creating, and advancing knowledge and ensuring a safe, respectful campus environment for our community."
In addition to tackling the problems on school campuses, Secretary of State Marco Rubio also addressed the possible revocation of Chinese student visas.
He stated, “Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students.”
Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Affairs Ministry, responded, “This politically discriminatory move exposes the hypocrisy of America’s long-proclaimed values of freedom and openness and will only further damage the United States’ international image and credibility.”
I am not sure whether the Chinese officials understand this or not, but the shaming tactic has not exactly been successful against Donald Trump.
On Monday, it was reported that the Trump administration had revoked nearly 6,000 international visas.
The reasons were varied, including overstays, violations, and other problematic conduct, such as supporting terrorism.
The State Department explained, "Every single student visa revoked under the Trump Administration has happened because the individual has either broken the law or expressed support for terrorism while in the United States. About 4,000 visas alone have been revoked because these visitors broke the law while visiting our country, including records of assault and DUIs."
There will be Democrat pushback on this, but the administration seems to have its paperwork in order here. But we all know that Democrats love to take up the cause of criminals, so don’t be surprised if this gets litigated and a liberal judge halts the visa suspensions.
