Fraud is not something that only happens within the Somali immigrant community in the United States.
The country itself is one of the most corrupt in the world.
Yet, amid all of the recent scandals that have made their way into the headlines, the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council was just given to Somalia.
By now, you are well aware of the fraud in Minnesota that is said to have been taking place.
Corrupt Somali immigrants are accused of using COVID-19 aid funding and other Health and Human Services programs to set up business fronts and collect millions without ever providing any services.
A New York Times piece on the subject earlier this year was truly explosive, showing that state authorities in Minnesota were often hesitant to even investigate claims of wrongdoing for fear of racism allegations.
Even now, with the fraud becoming more visible, Donald Trump and his administration are being accused of racial discrimination for wanting to root out the guilty parties and remove them from the country.
Normally, you would have to tread carefully before calling an entire country corrupt, but that is not the case with Somalia, as its status in this particular area is well-known.
We are talking about a place where embezzlement of public funds is commonplace, bribes are needed to receive even basic services, and influence peddling that makes the Biden family look like amateurs runs rampant.
When anti-corruption measures have been attempted, they have failed because the corruption is so deeply embedded in the entire structure of the government.
This is not really up for debate; it is a known fact.
Yet, of all things, the United Nations is now allowing Somalia to head its Security Council, a fact that would be funny if it were not true.
U.N. Watch executive director Hillel Neuer was flabbergasted by the development, stating, “Al-Qaeda militia controls large parts of the country. Ninety-five percent of girls aged 4 to 11 in Somalia face genital mutilation. Somalia is a failed state that under 12 indicators was ranked the world’s worst on terrorism, corruption, inability to collect taxes, mass displacement, economic collapse, group grievance, brain drain, and chronic insecurity.”
He concluded, “Somalia is a failed state controlled in large parts by al-Qaeda, and never should have been elected to the UN Security Council. By virtue of its absurd election – by a 93% majority of the U.N. vote – Somalia gets to hold the rotating monthly presidency.”
So, think about this… one of the most corrupt nations in the world, one that is saturated by terrorist organizations as well as human rights violations, is now in charge of shaping significant policy at the U.N. for the next month. As I said, it would be funny if it were not true.
