Could the horrific shooting in Minneapolis have been prevented?
I won’t go that far, but I will say, after reading a report regarding a request for security, I think the children would have had a better chance.
A rather disturbing report has surfaced that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz denied a request for funding made by Catholic schools, even though he had approved similar funding for public schools.
We all know the details at this point, but most people are concentrating on the fact that the alleged shooter was a transgender individual.
I want to focus on the fact that the alleged shooter was somehow able to approach the church, armed to the teeth, without anybody ever noticing him.
He was able to get dozens of shots off, killing two children, eventually turning his weapon on himself, without any resistance from police or security.
With all the incidents of this type that we have seen in the past, and with schools clearly being targeted, I had to wonder why there was no additional security.
In 2023, the Minnesota Catholic Conference asked Walz to write a check to establish a security budget for Catholic schools in the state.
In part, the letter stated, “There are approximately 72,000 students enrolled in Independent, Catholic, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim nonpublic schools in our state. The latest school shooting at a nonpublic Christian school in Tennessee sadly confirms what we already know -- our schools are under attack.”
It would seem like a commonsense move to protect children, but that is now how Democrats think.
This was a request from private schools, so we all know how that request went.
While grants were reportedly given to public schools, Catholic schools were denied despite the state having a surplus.
In other words, the only way to explain this is that Walz did not want to support Catholic schools in any way. It is important to note that Minnesota bishops had asked Walz to establish a security budget of $44 per student in 2022, with legislation that was presented with bipartisan support. Walz did not call for a special session to have the legislation passed, and the schools never received funding.
Walz is a major trans advocate, using government funds for people seeing “gender-affirming care,” but he will not pony up $44 per child to make Catholic schools safer.
It’s about an even playing field, but that is something we will never get from Democrats. I just hope Minnesota voters who have their children in these schools realize this and stop pulling the handle for Democrats.
