As we all know, two of the people who were reportedly pressuring Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential election privately were former President Barack Obama and House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
After Biden finally succumbed to their pressure, he immediately turned around and endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris, which led to a chain reaction of other endorsements, effectively gifting her the nomination.
Apparently, former Obama was not happy about the swiftness of the situation and went off on Pelosi for deviating from their plan.
After Biden’s disastrous June debate against Donald Trump, Democrats could no longer hide the fact that the commander in chief simply was not all there.
Conservative writers like myself had been pushing this narrative for close to two years and were usually called conspiracy theorists by the mainstream media, but all the signs were there for anyone who has ever seen dementia firsthand.
In late July, Biden announced, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made.”
He continued, “Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats -- it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
Biden’s endorsement stunned a lot of the power brokers in the party, as they had allegedly planned on having a mini-primary to select a replacement, but the presidential endorsement more or less gifted Harris the nomination.
His endorsement was followed by his party electors voicing their support, then the entire apparatus started to fall in line, including Pelosi, who endorsed Harris about 24 hours later.
She stated, "America has been truly blessed by the wisdom and leadership of President Joe Biden. With love and gratitude, I salute President Biden for always believing in the possibilities of America and giving people the opportunity to reach their fulfillment. As one of our country's most consequential presidents, President Biden has been not only on the right side of history, but on the right side of the future.”
Pelosi continued, “Today, it is with immense pride and limitless optimism for our country's future that I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. My enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris for President is official, personal and political.”
ABC News’ Jonathan Karl's upcoming book, Retribution, offers more insight into what happened behind closed doors as all this was taking place. Karl wrote, "The Obamas were not happy.” He continued, "This person summed up Obama’s message to Pelosi as, essentially, ‘What the f--- did you just do?’"
Obama was worried about Harris’ ability to beat Trump, and Karl wrote that he and Pelosi had agreed to hold off on endorsing anyone as they plotted behind the scenes about how to choose Biden's replacement.
He then details an “angry” conversation that took place between Pelosi and Obama in which the former speaker told the former president, “that train has left the station,” thanks to Biden immediately endorsing Harris. Obama did not endorse Harris for five days, as the rumors circulated even then that he did not want her as the candidate.
I have always maintained that the GOP should have sued the Democrats on constitutional grounds for appointing a candidate the way they did, since voters had already chosen a candidate for the Democratic Party ticket. In my opinion, they blatantly disregarded the vote of the American people, and I wanted that on the record to show Democrats just how hypocritical their party is. They accuse Trump of being a king, yet they are the ones who “appointed” a nominee rather than allowing her to be chosen by the electorate. In the end, it worked out great, as Trump won the election, but I still maintain we lost a huge opportunity to expose Democrats for who they really are.
