It is quite typical of people to offer “prayers” to console victims of crimes such as this, but this time, Democrats are declaring war on prayer.
After many people expressed this sentiment, Democrats and talking heads started to call out prayer as not being enough.
Among them, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
The incident itself is like a horror movie, with the alleged shooter opening up fire through church windows, hitting children, and killing them.
So far, two children have been reported dead, with more than a dozen others injured.
The shooter, who reportedly identified as a transgender woman, took his life at the scene.
Police are still investigating the crime, but they do have a journal and videos created by the alleged shooter.
Psaki went ballistic after the shooting, posting to X, "Prayer is not freaking enough. Prayers does not end school shootings. prayers do not make parents feel safe sending their kids to school. Prayer does not bring these kids back. Enough with the thoughts and prayers.”
She continued, "When kids are getting shot in their pews at a catholic school mass and your crime plan is to have national guard put mulch down around DC maybe rethink your strategy."
I agree with her that prayers are not enough, but my take on this is far different from Psaki’s.
They want to take our Second Amendment rights, but I look at this from a mental health perspective, as that always seems to be the underlying factor in all of these mass shootings. And now we are seeing a rather disturbing trend of transgender shootings, as several recent mass shootings in this country were all carried out by transgender or cisgender shooters.
Psaki was immediately called out, with X exploding with responses from people defending prayer.
For instance, Karen Hamilton, who is running for office in Virginia, responded, "I don’t expect a spiritually blind person to understand prayer, but it is real. Today I attended the funeral of a baby, and often when parents are in the depths of grief, Jesus is their greatest comforter. You should investigate why that is, rather than belittling it.”
Someone else actually called out Psaki for criticizing the sentiment when she had posted, “Thoughts and prayers with @SteveScalise and officers shot. And thank you to members, hill staffers for your public service.”
It’s a sentiment and something that comforts people during times such as this, so there is no need to belittle it. I get that Dems want to make this about gun control, but don’t demean people who use prayer for solace. But if you are going to go after guns, then we better also address the mental health issue and stop acting like this is not a common root of these shootings.
