The situation in Minnesota is now getting even more violent for agents, if that is even possible.
If they don’t have their heads on swivels, they are risking serious injury, as residents have been emboldened by Democrats to go after them at will.
To that point, reports broke that protesters swarmed a hotel where agents were staying, with one agent leaving the scene a bloody mess.
The one thing Trump does not want to do is turn the shooting investigation over to local authorities because they are out for blood.
I can guarantee that the agent would wind up facing a murder charge if Governor Tim Walz or Mayor Jacob Frey’s team leads the investigation.
So, Trump announced that the administration will make the final call in terms of the outcome, stating, “We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything and will come out with a determination.”
After watching the video numerous times, I think I have a pretty good idea of exactly what happened, and my gut tells me they will rule this an unfortunate and accidental shooting that was caused by the agent’s perception that Alex Pretti had drawn his weapon. Liberals and Democrats won't buy it, but in that moment, in that split second, that is what I saw.
Trump tried to calm everyone down, saying, “At some point, we will leave. We’ve done, they’ve done a phenomenal job,” but he would not hint at when that will be.
Some administration officials have talked about using the Insurrection Act, but that would likely only make matters worse, both regarding the situation in Minnesota and Democrats going after Trump and linking this to January 6. I believe Trump should avoid that at all costs.
I also believe the administration needs to stop portraying Pretti as a domestic terrorist, an assassin, and the host of other words they are using to attack him.
Pretty was absolutely misguided, likely encouraged to get in the face of agents because of Democrat rhetoric. They really need to start looking at optics because the sympathy here will fall with Pretti, whether people want to admit it or not. We need to start thinking big picture here.
To my point above, the rhetoric on both sides now has people tracking down agents and going after them where they are lying their heads at night.
A local Home2 Suites was swarmed by angry anti-ICE protesters on Sunday, with local law enforcement defending the hotel to the point that pictures circulated of a federal officer in Bureau of Prisons gear with a bloody face and hand.
But again, what is the right call to make here? If you back down, these rioters declare victory and believe they have kicked ICE out of the city. And believe me, for most of these people, it is less about immigration than it is a reason to go off on cops.
What I think needs to happen is that Frey, Walz, and Trump sit down in a room, no media, no social media, and work this out to some sort of compromise that everyone can live with. If this battle continues to be fought in the media and social media, more bodies are going to get stacked up, and I think we can all agree that nobody wants to see that happen.
