A protester crashed a Washington data-center celebration, flipped off hundreds of guests and shouted that the technology is “killing the world”, then the crowd answered with “USA” chants.
A woman interrupted a pro-data center party in Washington, D.C., jumped onstage, tried to seize the microphone, and directed middle fingers at the crowd while yelling about water use and planetary harm, Fox News Digital reported.
Security removed her. More than 600 attendees responded by chanting “USA, USA, USA.”
The episode hit a “Data After Dark” gathering thrown by three self-described data center “fanboys,” including Young Voices CEO Casey Givens and co-host Jonas Du. Hosts framed the night as a pushback against panic and a celebration of the industry’s local tax base, jobs, and national edge in the race with China.
Givens told Fox News Digital the woman first approached him and asked to give a toast in support of data centers. He refused.
She then vaulted onstage and tried to take the microphone from Du. From there came the middle fingers and the shouts.
“Thank you for using all of our water!” she yelled, per the report. “You’re killing the world.”
Givens said the hosts organized the party for a clear reason.
"I organized the party along with my co-hosts because the three of us were dismayed by how one side was dominating the data center conversation with hysteria instead of reason,"
He added that they meant to highlight benefits at home and abroad.
"We wanted to push back by throwing a celebration of technology and benefits of data centers, locally in terms of tax revenue and economic development, and nationally in terms of innovation and the fight against China,"
Data centers house thousands of high-performance computers that keep modern networks running. Loudoun County in Northern Virginia, name-checked in a themed “Loudoun County Iced Tea” at the party, states on its website that it handles more than 70% of global internet traffic across roughly 250 facilities.
President Donald Trump has pressed for a fast buildout of data centers as part of his broader artificial intelligence agenda. He argues the United States must stay ahead of China, and that blocking these projects hands Beijing an opening.
From the Oval Office on Sept. 4, Trump put the stakes in blunt terms.
"If you want to go through poverty, crime and squalor, I would say don’t approve of data centers,"
At the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, he framed the contest around what he called “superintelligence” and said America intends to keep the lead.
"Every major new technology brings challenges, and superintelligence is no exception,"
"Whoever wins superintelligence wins. That's the group that wins. And we're leading now over China by a lot and everyone else. And we're going to keep it that way."
That is the national backdrop for a D.C. party that tried to toast infrastructure, and met a stage-rush instead of a debate over water, power, zoning, or China.
No injuries, arrests, or charges were described in the account. The protester was not named. The exact date and venue of “Data After Dark” were not given beyond Washington, D.C.
A separate demonstration against AI and data centers appeared in related imagery from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where marchers headed toward a G20 Innovation Ministerial site; some signs were branded with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, which the caption called a pro-China communist group. That march was not the D.C. party. It showed the same fight playing out on another campus.
When activists replace argument with a snatched microphone and obscenity, voters get noise instead of trade-offs. Build the centers, win the race, or cede the future, the chant from the floor already picked a side.
